Orchard General Manager

About Us:

Pome on the Range (POTR) is a diversified orchard and farm market near Ottawa, Kansas, with over 2,000 apple trees, along with peach, pear, and persimmon trees, plus seasonal crops such as pumpkins, corn, tomatoes, and more. Our on-site market sells fresh produce, cider, wine, and a wide range of seasonal and specialty items. We are seeking a skilled, hands-on Orchard General Manager to lead both our agricultural operations and the team that powers our orchard and retail market.

What You’ll Do:

• Oversee care and maintenance of all orchard trees and seasonal crops, including pruning, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation.
• Manage planting, cultivation, and harvest operations in line with seasonal cycles and market demand.
• Lead and supervise field and market staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling.
• Collaborate with the market team to align harvest with product needs and promotional efforts.
• Maintain and service farm equipment and ensure safety and functionality of farm infrastructure.
• Track production data, labor efficiency, and inventory to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure full compliance with agricultural, food safety, and labor regulations.
• Coordinate regularly with ownership and report across both Ottawa and Louisburg operations.

Who You Are:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• 5 years of experience managing orchards or diversified farms, including supervising labor.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills, with hands-on agricultural experience.
• Knowledgeable in fruit tree care, crop cycles, and soil/irrigation management.
• Comfortable balancing physical fieldwork with administrative planning.
• Bonus if you have experience in retail farm markets, agri-tourism, or value-added products.

Job Details:

• Location: Based near Ottawa, KS, with coordination across both Ottawa and Louisburg
• Schedule: Full-time, year-round with seasonal evening and weekend availability
• Travel: Minimal, primarily between orchard and market sites
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors year-round and operate farm equipment
