Position Summary:
The Lunder Homer Fellow at the Portland Museum of Art (PMA) works closely with the Education and Curatorial teams on reinterpretation of the Winslow Homer Studio and assists with initiatives aimed at audience building and accessibility. This position supports the Homer High School Fellows program, a paid internship for high school students, and collaborates with various departments across the museum to further the PMA's mission.
Terms:
This is an at-will, part-time position for approximately 12-15 hours per week from May or June 2025 through September 2025.
The Lunder Homer Fellow at the Portland Museum of Art is supported by the Lunder Homer Education Fund.
Job Functions:
- Winslow Homer Studio Programming and Development
- Collaborates with the Education team to conceptualize and prototype interpretative ideas aligned with research and project learning goals for the Winslow Homer Studio.
- Researches, develops, organizes, and implements digital and in-person programming to enhance the Winslow Homer Studio tour experience.
- Youth and Community Engagement
- Supports the Homer High School Fellows program by engaging with fellows.
- Develops and aids in implementing programmatic initiatives designed to examine the PMA’s role within communities, critically analyze the PMA’s history and future, and gathers and provides feedback to better center the PMA’s mission to create an inclusive space that champions open expression and makes art accessible to all.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Partners with the Curatorial and Registration teams to enhance data quality and maintenance of object records and interpretive materials in gallery settings as needed.
- Provides support to the Education and Curatorial departments in the daily execution of programming and interpretive projects.
- Assists in research related to objects within the PMA collection to support ongoing collection and exhibition projects.

Qualifications:
- Rising sophomore, junior, senior or graduating senior.
- Students studying Art, Museum Education, Museum Studies, Art History, American Studies, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants must be Maine residents or students enrolled at Maine-based colleges.
- Strong interest in art, art history, research, museums, and careers in museums.

- Local and occasional for regional travel for research and visits to the Winslow Homer Studio.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work Environment: In-person at PMA or affiliated sites, involving office and onsite engagement.
Physical Demands: Frequent computer use; visual and auditory acuity; occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
Exposures: Varying office and event environments; fluctuating noise levels; large meetings and events.
May require remote work.
