The Powerhouse Kiln Tender at PotlatchDeltic, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the boiler and kiln operation. They will also be operating a front-end loader, bobcat, forklift, backhoe, dump truck, and other equipment as needed. Boiler and kiln operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position will work a 12-hour shift, 7 on, 7 off. This is part of a 4-level apprenticeship program.
The hourly rate for this position is between $26.21 - $30.25, depending on experience.
Requirements:
1 year boiler/kiln experience is required.
Starts up boiler and associated support equipment.
Performs pre-checks and proper shut down procedures.
Makes rounds to check bearings, motors and gearboxes for heat.
Greases bearings.
Tests chemicals.
Keeps boiler properly fueled.
Operates front end loader, Bobcat, forklift, backhoe, dump truck, and other equipment as needed.
Cleans out the powerhouse.
Cleans grates and fireboxes.
Responds to emergency power outages.
Unplugs stoker augers.
Oversees the fork truck operator while pushing loads into the kilns for proper loading.
Greases fan lines/bearings.
Checks grease fittings and fans in the fan deck.
Burns and destroys documents/papers by feeding materials into the boiler.
Performs welding, cutting, and grinding to maintain and repair equipment.
Exposure to prolonged heat, cold, dust and noise.
Prolonged standing.
Must be able to climb stairs.
Occasionally lift over 50 pounds.
