POSITION SUMMARY
Has direct contact with patients, answers telephones, schedules tests, procedures, and referrals. Provides general assistance for physically ill patients and interacts with medical providers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets patients and visitors; verifies patient's birthdate, name, address, and phone number. Answers telephones, screens, and transfers calls, and takes messages for department staff.
- Schedules or reschedules patients and procedures for all providers, ancillary, and outreach services utilizing computer menu-driven software. Coordinate referral appointments for patients and provide appointment cards for departing patients.
- Provides instruction sheets to patients explaining tests and procedures and gives prescribed test kits. Enter lab and procedure orders into the EMR.
- Orders medical records charts for callbacks and nurse treatments via computer operations. Enters "failed" appointments into the computer upon nursing requests.
- Other duties may be assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six months prior hospital/medical or general office experience is required. Previous patient registration and computer experience are desirable.
