JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Vice President of Accounting/Controller is a financial executive responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations and reporting of an oil and gas company. This role combines strategic accounting and financial leadership with industry-specific expertise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Accounting Department, including revenue, accounts payable, accounts receivable, joint interest billing (JIB), financial reporting, and treasury functions
- Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and industry standards
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies1
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory bodies
- Manage cash flow, including cash forecasting and optimizing credit facility usage
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Manage the integration of acquired assets into financial systems and processes
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field: MBA or Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 10 years experience, with at least 5 years in oil and gas accounting
- CPA / CA / CMA Designation preferred
- Strong understanding of oil and gas accounting principles and practices, including revenue accounting, joint interest billing, and production accounting
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements
- Knowledge of tax regulations relevant to the oil and gas industry
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
