Winery Assistant

Job Title: Winery Assistant at Gruet Winery 

Precept Wine is the largest privately owned wine company in the Northwest. We’re seamlessly integrated to run our own vineyards, wineries and world-class tasting rooms. We are seeking a highly organized individual with extensive wine oenology and cellar knowledge to join our Gruet Winery team in Albuquerque, NM. This Winery specializes in Methode Champenoise. The Wine Assistant is responsible for assisting with cellar and lab operations as needed by the Winemaker in the process of making wine. The right candidate will be highly organized, dependable, motivated, and a team player. This position will report directly to the Winemaker.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Works directly with the Winemaker to ensure daily, weekly and monthly cellar and lab operations are completed timely and efficiently.
• To assist in executing daily assigned work orders whether it’s making an actual blend in the cellar or performing analysis in the lab. 
• Must be able to transfer Juice/Wine from tank to tank using pumps, hoses, and fittings.
• Weigh additives and make additions to the Juice/Wine.
• Must have a strong understanding of winery sanitization practices and is able to execute them.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as presses, pumps, electrodialysis, forklifts, filters, and different size tanks.
• Able to haul hoses and push pumps throughout the cellar.
• Performing analyses using a variety of manual and automated methods
• Following standard operating procedures; writing or editing procedures.
• Following laboratory safety procedures.
• Properly maintaining instruments and test systems.
• Maintaining accurate records and performing accurate data entry 
• Quality Control of equipment and wine.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and sanitized facility including lab, tanks, hoses, pumps, and fittings.
• Other duties as assigned by Winemaker
• Ensuring quality assurance with delivery of wine to bottling line on specified date having completed wine fining, filtering and bottle preparation.  
• Demonstrates professionalism to the team

Skills and Requirements:

• 3 years of cellar and lab experience in a large facility
• Ability to work quickly, accurately, and safely.
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods.
• Previous experience in a production lab.
• Previous experience in the cellar.
• Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication.
• Excellent organizational stills, detail oriented.
• Self-starter with initiative willingness to learn and follow new procedures.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly.
• Forklift certified or willing to get certification.
• Highly organized and motivated as well as a team player
• Work extended hours and weekends when needed for harvest and bottling
• Be able to withstand outside weather conditions
• Ability to work in an ever changing fast-paced environment and willingness to go the extra mile
• Upmost commitment to quality and integrity
• Solid computer skills in Word, Excel and wine tracking programs
