Job Description / Summary
Performs varied psychiatric nursing services for outpatient clients, including responsibilities related to physical exams and medication management.
Responsibilities
- Conducts initial and subsequent psychiatric assessments in which provider evaluates, diagnoses, prescribes, and administers medication under the supervision of collaborative physician.
- Provides education on medication needs, dosage, administration, and potential adverse reactions to clients and guardians.
- Works effectively with the full spectrum of diagnosis disorders.
- Demonstrates clinical facility in psychotropic medication use, side effects and indications for psychiatric intervention, in children, adolescents (if a child prescriber) and adults.
- Initiates and evaluates diagnostic tests.
- Monitors client’s response to prescribed medication by demonstrating ability to identify changes and precipitants in the status of maladaptive symptoms and level of functioning.
- Conduct drug utilization evaluation and monitoring to inform the prescribing process.
- Provides recordkeeping in an accurate and timely manner including up-to-date individual record of all medications, including nonprescription and non-psychoactive medications, prescribed for, and used by the person served including
name of medication, dosage, frequency, instructions for use, and the prescribing professional shall be documented.

Qualifications
o Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey
o Completion of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program
o Current NJ Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) Certificate
o DEA Certificate eligible in the State of NJ
