What are the responsibilities and job description for the Real Estate Development Intern position at Preservation of Affordable Housing?
About the Opportunity: This internship opporunity is for summer 2025. The Development Intern will report to one or more of the office’s vice presidents for real estate development. However, POAH is a team-oriented company, and any employee is expected to act as such and may be requested to work with other team members. Throughout the summer, the Development Intern will be exposed to the many different means and mechanisms behind the successful development of affordable housing. This ranges from meeting with residents and community members, to assessing financial feasibility and researching programs and policies. The Intern will leave the summer specifically with:
- Assist in evaluating potential development projects, conducting research, and helping with financial analysis to assess feasibility.
- Support project teams by collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and legal professionals to ensure smooth project execution.
- Engage with community stakeholders, including residents and local organizations, to gather feedback and help address concerns during development.
- Help track project timelines and budgets, ensuring projects stay on track and within financial goals.
- Assist in preparing and submitting necessary documentation for permits, financing, and regulatory approvals.
- Support the improvement of portfolio systems, helping with data collection, verification, and organization for better project tracking and reporting.
Knowledge and Experience:
Candidates should have demonstrated ability to:
- Communicate effectively in person and in writing;
- Perform spreadsheet and other financial analyses;
- Make convincing public presentations using PowerPoint and other tools;
- Manage simultaneous and competing activities and demands,
- Remain organized and meet deadlines;

This internship is a paid position. Hourly rates are $22-$24 pending the finalist.
