What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Mentor - Full-time position at Prevention Awareness Support Services (PASS)?
Prevention Awareness Support Services (PASS) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill an open position for a youth mentor.
A youth mentor offers structured, one-to-one or group, strength-based support services for children and teens for the purpose of addressing daily living, social and communication needs.
Mentoring services include:
Supporting, coaching and training in age-appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and relating appropriately to other children, adolescents and adults in recreational and social activities pursuant to a behavioral health or care coordination treatment plan.
Duties:
- Become familiar with the DBT STEPS-A Program and the DBT Skills
- Certify as the Youth MHFA First Aider
- Become trained in PAX Tools
- Acquire Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Certification
- Mentor Youth: Provide mentorship and guidance to children referred to the program. Develop and implement individualized mentoring plans based on the unique needs of each child. Assist children in setting and achieving goals. Support children in developing positive behaviors and coping strategies. Monitor and evaluate the progress of each child, adjusting mentoring strategies as needed.
- Submit immediate youth needs requests to immediate supervisor for approval.
- Complete all reporting in a timely manner, to immediate supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned
Experience:
- Previous experience working with children/youth, preferably in a mentoring or childcare role- Knowledge of behavioral health principles and techniques
- Familiarity with conflict management strategies
- Ability to educate and empower children to make positive choices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with children and their families.
- Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field is preferred, but not required. Minimum of an Associate Degree in a related field is required.
- Minimum of two years in a related field.
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and access to a privately owned vehicle during scheduled work hours.
- Must be available locally - full time.
- Must live within 45 minutes of Logan/Champaign Counties. Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours for mentoring as needed (based on family and child needs).
- Computer skills: Ability to check email, enter data into program specific software for required reports and use the internet effectively.
