Under general supervision, with independent judgment, performs highly technical and complex grants and resource development duties to advance the college’s mission and strategic goals. Responsible for assisting faculty and staff with all phases of public and private grants development including needs assessment, subject matter research, program/project development, and grant writing/proposal development.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors’ degree in English, Education or related field
  • Minimum of two years of full-time equated experience with public (federal and state) and private grant writing
  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience with facilitating grants development teams for public and private grants, as well as experience in training others in developing grant programs and grant writing
  • Must have supervised personnel a minimum of two years
  • Direct experience with developing grant-funded programs
  • Experience working in large, complex organizations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Manage the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to public and private funding sources, such as conducting research, collecting data, writing, reviewing, editing concepts and proposals for public and private funders
  • Supervises temporary, student, and/or consultant staff working on grant projects
  • In concert with the director of Grants and Resource Development, manages grant program and proposal development and internal review processes
  • Writes or edits concept papers, abstracts and copy pertaining to grants for submittals to publications as assigned
  • Carries out comprehensive research regarding funding organizations and serves as an authorized organizational representative (AOR) for the college to funding agencies
  • Manage and utilize funding agency electronic databases (i.e., NSF Fastlane and Grants.gov) to submit timely and accurate proposals and reports
  • Serve as an authorized member of the Research Administration/Sponsored Research Office for National Science Foundation Fastlane grants administration purposes
  • Assists faculty and staff with transforming ideas into grant concepts and grant proposal
  • Ensures that written proposals adhere to the required standards specified by funders
  • Researches and maintains a current database of strategic funding opportunities on topics related to the college, its strategic programs and populations served
  • Works with Office of Planning, Assessment and Institutional Research and Technology Services to obtain data to develop programs and to substantiate written proposals
  • Utilizes available systems and information in order to assist project directors with submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects as needed
  • Facilitates multi-disciplinary dialogue among individuals in the organization who are participating as part of the grant writing team
  • Produces cohesive proposals from written notes and other submittals from multiple writers
  • Manages and evaluates the viability of the budget/financial plan as it relates to grant programs and projects and provides supportive narrative
  • Writes and/or edits copy for the department for college website, intranet, publications, press releases, and other internal/external publications
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research
  • Strong contributor in team environments
  • Intermediate knowledge of principles and practices of all phases of private and public (federal and state) grant application, reporting guidelines, and grant requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for needs assessments, program development, and grant proposal development
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills with ability to successfully manage multiple, complex projects with competing deadlines and shifting priorities under tight, high-stakes deadlines
  • Strong computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Strong group facilitation skills

Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Working evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet grant deadlines is expected
  • Requires moderate local and minimal out-of-state travel
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
