The Homeless Services program of the Prince William Department of Social Services is seeking an energetic Human Services Caseworker Associate for our Homeless Services Drop-In Center and Overnight Shelter. We are located in Woodbridge, Virginia and operate 24/7, 365 days per year. As a Human Services Caseworker Associate, you will be part of a team that will oversee the daily shelter operations of the drop-in center and shelter to ensure we provide a safe, clean and supportive environment for our customers. We are currently seeking someone who can work Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and alternate Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Human Services Caseworker Associate is responsible for providing high-level customer service for unhoused individuals who come to the Homeless Services drop-in center or the 24/7 emergency shelter. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing client intakes and conducting basic assessments to determine clients’ housing and other needs, before providing referrals to programs/agencies for additional services. The Human Services Caseworker Associate will also be responsible for serving meals (typically prepared by outside groups, but served by our staff), shopping monthly for food and supplies, assisting volunteers and community partners with the programs they deliver. To ensure a safe working and living environment for clients and staff, they will engage with clients to prevent or assist clients to deescalate conflicts and address problems in a constructive manner.

The Prince William Department of Social Services has a staff of over 400 and serves the community through adult and child-welfare programs, public benefits distribution, and homeless prevention services. We annually serve over 100,000 people with the goal of creating self-sufficiency and economic stability. PREFERENCES:
- Three or more years of experience working in an emergency homeless shelter, residential setting/program, drop-in center, or home health service.
- Experience managing and de-escalating crisis situations.
- Experience supervising the work of volunteers.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
- Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.
- Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
- Staff in this position cannot perform their job by teleworking.
- Staff in this position must be able to report to work in inclement weather or other states of emergency.
