We’re looking for an associate editor to serve our suite of associations, where your creativity and input are embraced and you work as part of a collaborative team to create insightful and beautiful products. We want you to put your education, experience, and knowledge to the test and join our award-winning Communications department. You will work on multiple magazines, websites, videos, podcasts, and communication and marketing print and digital collateral.

We are Professional Assist Corporation (PAC), an organization consisting of four associations. Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP), Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP), Associated Hair Professionals (AHP), and Associated Nail Professionals (ANP) help members build successful careers by providing liability insurance coverage, advanced and on-demand continuing education, member magazines, business and marketing tools, and legislative advocacy. Job Summary

The Associate Editor is a member of the Communications department, contributing to massage, esthetics, hair, and nail content development for ABMP, ASCP, AHP, and ANP. Duties include editing and writing for print and digital magazines and newsletters, and online material for both blogs and websites.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a contributing editor for Massage & Bodywork, ASCP Skin Deep, and AHP Indie Stylist magazines: edits all articles for all print magazines.
  • Writes the Knead to Know, Beauty Buzz, Cosmo Clips, and Member Benefits sections of Massage & Bodywork, ASCP Skin Deep, and AHP Indie Stylist magazines.
  • Serves as backup to the Editorial Director for all legislative updates and government relations emails and post updates on the ABMP and ASCP websites’ Legislative Updates sections.
  • Edits all marketing materials and member emails before distribution to members.
  • Produces, curates, and/or edits blogs for all association websites in coordination with Senior Editor.
  • Fields questions from members and internal teammates regarding past articles and research
  • Makes an estimated 20 expired member outreach calls per week to help members renew their membership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organized, flexible, resourceful
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Excel a plus
  • Exceptional writing, editing, grammar, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software, particularly Microsoft Word
  • Comfortable pursuing ongoing training and education in editorial and publishing best practices
  • Experience working with teams on large-scale projects
  • Follow through on issues in a consistent and timely manner
  • Work as part of an energetic, thoughtful team
  • Able to provide and accept constructive criticism on projects and work content
  • Ability to see big-picture and minute details
  • Ability to brainstorm and problem-solve with team

Qualifications

  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related fields (journalism, communications, English, etc.)
  • 1–3 years of experience working in an editorial capacity a plus
  • Understanding of, and appreciation for, massage therapy, esthetic, hair styling, and nail worlds a plus

Compensation

  • Competitive compensation (range $45,000–$50,000)

The pay for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), and other law.

Job Conditions

This is a full-time, nonexempt position. We embrace a hybrid work environment. Tuesdays through Thursdays we work in our office; Mondays and Fridays we have the option to work from home.
