The Fire Suppression Technician will be responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing portable fire extinguishers, kitchen suppression and emergency lighting systems at various commercial and industrial locations. This role requires technical expertise in fire safety equipment, attention to detail, and adherence to fire protection codes and standards. The technician will work directly with customers to ensure that kitchen hoods, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting systems are operational, compliant, and ready to perform in case of an emergency.
Key Responsibilities:
· Inspect, test, service, and recharge portable fire extinguishers in compliance with NFPA 10, manufacturer specifications, and local fire codes.
· Install and repair emergency egress lighting and exit signs, ensuring compliance with NFPA 101 and local building codes.
· Perform routine inspections and testing of emergency lighting systems, including battery backups, bulbs, and signage.
· Diagnose and resolve deficiencies in fire extinguishers and emergency lighting systems, providing repairs or replacements as needed.
· Inspect, test, service kitchen suppression systems in compliance with NFPA 96.
· Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs, including service tags and reports.
· Communicate effectively with clients to explain the functionality of systems, address concerns, and provide recommendations for corrective actions or upgrades.
· Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of fire extinguisher chemicals.
· Keep up-to-date on fire protection codes, safety standards, and manufacturer guidelines for fire extinguishers and emergency lighting systems.
· Coordinate with the service manager and dispatch team to complete scheduled inspections and emergency service calls efficiently.
· Maintain inventory of parts and equipment needed for servicing kitchen systems, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting, ensuring readiness for service calls.
Qualifications:
· 2 years of experience in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of kitchen hoods, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting systems.
· Working knowledge of NFPA 10 (Portable Fire Extinguishers), NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code), NFPA 96 (Kitchen Hoods) and local fire and building codes.
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, safety regulations, and product specifications.
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Strong communication and customer service skills.
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
· Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks.
Nice to Haves:
· OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety certification or equivalent.
