Job Summary
The Assistant Controller is instrumental in leading the financial close process and managing and mentoring accounting staff. The ideal candidate will have experience supervising in a small business environment, will be self-motivated, system savvy, and an enthusiastic team player with strong accounting experience, organizational and leadership skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage month-end and year-end close process for all Sierra branches
Record financial transactions, prepare and review account analyses
Reconcile and coordinate the research and resolution of outstanding items of Balance Sheet accounts
Assist Controller with financial reporting and audit requirements
Analyze processes and develop more efficient procedures when necessary
Mentor and manage accounting staff
Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial system entries
Assist the Controller as needed
Requirements
5 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
2 years managing accounting or finance personnel
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or another related field
Strong analytical and numerical aptitude and must have a working knowledge of GAAP
Experience with general ledger functions and financial close process
Strong computer skills, including advanced Excel functions
Ability to work independently on various projects and manage multiple deadlines
Self-motivated with the drive to learn
Independent thinker and problem solver
Team player with ability to delegate and direct staff in completion of assignments
Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills
Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Takes ownership of work and follows through on projects to completion
