Position Overview
Clare County is seeking a dedicated and motivated person to join the team as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will be responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases and providing legal counsel to law enforcement. Key Responsibilities
- Criminal Prosecution: Prosecute criminal cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile offenses, from investigation through trial, appeals, and post-conviction matters.
- Legal Counsel: Provide legal advice and guidance to law enforcement officers, county officials, and community organizations on criminal law and procedures.
- Court Representation: Represent the county in district and circuit courts, conducting hearings, motions, arraignments, and trials.
- Case Management: Review case files, evaluate evidence, prepare case strategies, and ensure all legal and procedural requirements are met for each case.
- Collaboration: Work closely with local law enforcement, defense attorneys, judges, and community stakeholders to promote the fair and efficient administration of justice.
- Community Engagement: Engage with the community to promote crime prevention, educate the public on legal issues, and maintain transparency in legal proceedings.
- Continual Learning: Stay current on developments in criminal law, Michigan statutes, and relevant case law to provide informed and effective legal representation.
Qualifications
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensure: Must be a licensed attorney in the state of Michigan with membership in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
- Experience:
- Prior experience in prosecuting criminal cases is preferred but not required.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to handle multiple cases and deadlines efficiently.
- Demonstrated commitment to justice and integrity.
- Knowledge of Michigan criminal law and court procedures.
- Ability to work well in a team and build collaborative relationships.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in an office and courtroom setting, interacting with colleagues, legal professionals, and the public.
