Assistant Dean of DEI
Overview
Manage the execution of DEI objectives, in conjunction with the Dean, in support of both the College’s and the School of Business strategic planning goals. Collaborate with Institutional Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, the PCSB Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, the PCSB Dean’s Diversity Council, Mission & Ministry, and Institutional Advancement to oversee PCSB diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Essential Duties:
- Execute and coordinate PCSB strategic initiatives. Chair the PCSB Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Committee and the PCSB Dean’s Diversity Council, and execute strategic initiatives developed by committees, in support of the College and the School’s strategic plans and aligning with the DEI five-focus area framework. Provide support and guidance to internal and external partners for implementing and executing new initiatives, and for maintaining existing programs. Manage the PCSB climate survey, and work with the PCSB Senior Leadership Team on initiatives to support an inclusive environment. Assist in the development and implementation of inclusive hiring strategies for fulltime and part-time faculty and staff. Actively engage in training and onboarding activities. Oversee the maintenance of all marketing collateral, communications, and web content related to student-focused DEI initiatives.
- Manage the execution of strategic DEI objectives, in conjunction with the Dean. Plan and execute the student-focused diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the PCSB DEI Committee and Dean’s Diversity Council. Plan, coordinate, train, and facilitate the delivery of DEI content for the Friar Leadership & Immersion Program (FLIP), including oversight and management of the cultural agility requirement, encouragement of inclusive programming/events, and supporting staff, academic departments, and student leaders on coordination of DEI speakers. Develop, coordinate, and deliver “Working Across Differences” workshops as part of the FLIP cultural agility requirement for majors. Manage the Michael J. Berkeley Business Excellence Program, including delivery of the programs and events in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Advising and DEI. Support clubs and organizations, encouraging inclusive programming, and helping to advise ALPFA, NABA, and Women in Business organizations with faculty advisors and the Assistant Director. Oversee and manage funds to support DEI student engagement, including process, communications, and review of submissions.
- Collaborate with the Dean’s Office and appropriate staff, Institutional Diversity, and Admissions to plan, lead, and facilitate K-12 initiatives serving underrepresented students and specific admissions events targeted at underrepresented students. Work with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to coordinate calling and writing campaigns and other yield initiatives to help recruit underrepresented students and use analytics to track progress and manage the portfolio of events to make recommendations on budget and resource needs and allocations.
- Supervise the Assistant Director of Academic Advising and DEI, support academic advising and students at-risk, and other strategic Dean’s Office initiatives.
- Provide oversight and support of DEI curricular initiatives, in collaboration with the Dean’s Office, staff, chairs, and faculty. Coordinate the annual DEI case-writing workshop and the maintenance of the diverse case repository.
- Serve on PCSB committees, attend meetings, commencement, and graduation, and assist in signature events.
Marginal Duties:
- Perform all other duties as may be required.
Education and Experience Required
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution required. Higher education, business, or counseling preferred.
- Minimum of five to seven years’ experience within a university setting with student services experience (e.g., admissions, academic advising, career counseling) or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Significant experience working with diverse populations and DEI programming and leadership.
- Substantial working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Experience using SIS, ideally Banner.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and strong team orientation.
- Ability to work with various constituencies, including corporate partners, vendors, prospective students, parents/guardians, current students, alumni faculty, and staff.
- Ability to think strategically in the delivery of programs and services.
- Must possess strong organizational skills.
- Some evenings and weekends required.
