Job Description
Senior Materials Manager oversees the planning and coordination of PTS's inventory and purchasing departments. Tasks will include researching best prices, monitoring inventory levels, distributing supplies, and negotiating contracts. The position will direct, coordinates, and executes purchasing activities, establishing planner/buyer goals based on corporate inventory needs and sales projections, including planning and buying of inventory parts to meet forecasted demand, facility supplies and MRO purchasing. Purchasing activities must adhere to PTS Supplier Controls to meet legal and regulatory requirements and standards as well as meet terms of existing Supply and Quality Agreements. Analyzes current buying processes and creates the best methods for day-to-day purchasing operations. Demonstrated ownership of inventory from PO placement through finished goods inventory level.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and make recommendations to ensure continuity of supply
- Generate Master Schedule for planner/buyers and production departments to plan materials and labor resources
- Maintain appropriate balance of inventory through appropriate safety stock inventory levels and optimum order quantities from material planning, ordering, and adjustment of delivery dates on open purchase orders
- Directs production and inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials storage.
- Performs write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate value of inventory.
- Establishes procedures for conducting and valuing year-end physical inventory.
- Direct responsibility for managing the relationships with critical and significant suppliers to control inventory level, revision control and monitor expiration dates from point of purchase order generation through consumption in production
- Oversee and manage planner/buyer activities to ensure compliance and supply of component inventory for all other suppliers to control inventory level, revision control and monitor expiration dates from point of purchase order generations through consumption in production
- Resolve issues that could delay shipments
- Routine evaluation of purchase price variance to maximize cost savings for company
- Negotiate cost reduction opportunities with suppliers of both services and products
- Monitor inventory turns and other KPI’s; take action to address gaps
- Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset loss
- Monitor compliance of suppliers to PTS Supplier Controls, Supply and/or Quality Agreements and product specifications; work collaboratively with PTS Quality and Regulatory to address any issues
- Maintain vendor files in an audit-ready state per PTS Supplier Controls Procedures and Work Instructions
- Routine monitoring of component inventory for expiration dating, obsolescence, scrap
- Train and guide employees
- Required to occasionally travel off-site to visit vendor facilities, etc. to conduct business reviews with key suppliers
- Process owner for all Purchasing and Warehouse activities
- Coordination of timing of production changes to limit financial exposure through minimizing scrap
- Participation in compliance audits and activities, such as: transition to European IVDR requirements, driving RoHS compliance with suppliers, etc
- Collaborate with other departments to create coordinated plans for business growth
- Attention to detail including revision control, lot numbers, expiration dates
- Strong experience with Purchasing Controls in an FDA-regulated industry
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Skilled negotiator with previous experience in a manufacturing company
- Strong communication skills including ability to be firm with suppliers and act in the best interest of PTS while maintaining the integrity of the relationship
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820 is preferred

- Ability to work independently
- MRP, MS Word, MS Excel, QT-9, Sage 500, SharePoint, and other programs
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Eight or more years’ experience in progressive purchasing, materials management, or procurement roles
- Experienced in managing others and collaborating with Quality, R&D, Engineering and Production
- Experienced in providing executive management updates and seeking approval to take next steps
- ASQ SQE preferred
- APICS certification preferred
- Medical device/ROHS experience preferred
- Or, equivalent combination of education and experience
