Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
- We are seeking a seasonal employee like you to provide support to the watermelon breeding and product development team.
- The intern will work with research and breeding programs to learn techniques and decision-making criteria as it relates to vegetable hybrid/cultivar development.
- Assist in breeding programs and product development with field phenotyping and data capture
- Assist in harvest and yield data collection
- Help to execute greenhouse planting and on farm field trial execution, observation, and evaluation
- Able to regularly lift 50 lbs.
- Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with watermelon production or ability to learn.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Methodical and thorough working habits.
- Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors and managers at all times.
- Work well under pressure in order to meet multiple, and sometimes, competing deadlines.
- Ability to bend, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in field under varying conditions & ability to walk several miles per day.
- A valid driver's license and availability for overnight trips
- Vehicle Will be provided; Cell phone and laptop provided
- Minimum High school diploma or GED
- Pursuing a degree in Agriculture or a related field
- Prior lab/field experience
