IT Intern

Position Summary

We’re seeking a talented and motivated IT intern to join our team this summer! If you’re passionate about artificial intelligence, skilled in tech, and eager to apply your creativity to real-world business challenges, this is your chance to make an impact. Our company leverages Google Cloud to manage data and is looking for an intern to help us explore innovative AI solutions to optimize our operations. At the end of the summer, the intern will have the opportunity to present their projects and key learnings to the team, showcasing the skills and insights they’ve gained during their internship.

Essential Functions 

While not all-inclusive, the following is a list of primary and general duties. In addition to these listed duties, this position shall also perform other tasks as assigned, shall abide by all provisions of the Employee Handbook, and shall participate in all company initiatives and projects.

• Develop and prototype AI-driven tools or models to enhance business processes, such as predictive analytics, automation, or data insights, using Google Cloud AI/ML services (e.g., Vertex AI, AutoML, or BigQuery ML).

• Analyze and preprocess datasets stored in Google Cloud (e.g., using BigQuery, Cloud Storage) to support AI solution development.

• Collaborate with the various departments / teams to integrate AI solutions into existing workflows, ensuring compatibility with Google Cloud infrastructure.

• Research emerging AI technologies and propose creative applications to improve efficiency, reduce costs, or enhance customer experiences.

• Assist in documenting and testing AI models, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards.

• Provide technical support or troubleshooting for AI-related tools deployed on Google Cloud platforms.

Education / Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or related program at Carnegie Mellon University.

• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts (e.g., machine learning models, natural language processing, or computer vision).

• Experience with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar AI frameworks is a plus.

• Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services or similar cloud environments is highly desirable.

• Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software development principles.

• Prior projects or coursework involving AI or tech innovation is a bonus.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. The person in this role must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and must move about occasionally inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery and have routine contact with individuals in the office. The person in this role may need to climb stairs, travel, and have the ability to move about both indoor and outdoor venues. This person in this role must be able to lift 15 lbs routinely and 25 lbs occasionally.  

Travel

This position requires travel, up to 10% of the time. Travel will be mixed, local and outside the local area and overnight.

Expected Hours of Work

The typical work schedule for this position follows a standard workday, with occasional flexibility for evening and weekend work during high-volume periods. All breaks and lunches will comply with local, state, and federal laws, and overtime, if required, will be compensated in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
