SALARY LEVEL:
Based on School Classified Salary Schedule (90-day Probation Period)
SHIFT:
8.0 hours per day – 180 days per year (8:00 am – 4:00 pm or as assigned)

JOB PURPOSE:
Performs any combination of the following instructional tasks in classroom(s) to
assist the K-12 teaching and/or special programs staff with students from age 3 to 21. Must be comfortable working in a Microsoft and Google Applications For Education environment where most instruction is delivered by synchronous, asynchronous, Google Classroom and Google Drive. It is desirable that the candidate have experience with BIE Infinite Campus and OSPI Skyward database systems. The paraeducator will be expected to support the Student Services Director and Teaching staff in record keeping as requested by the supervisor. Duties as assigned may include library support, bus monitoring and substitute teaching.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities
Relieves the teacher of routine clerical duties in the classroom(s) and/or special programs area(s).
Tutor students in core curriculum areas or in any/all areas identified in IEP, 504 Plan, or as directed by his/her supervisor.
Qualify for a substitute teacher license.
Strong language arts, math and spelling skills.
Orders, checks and prepares materials and/or equipment for use in classroom and/or work areas as directed by the supervisor.
Ability to work with and meet the needs of all types of students, regardless of their nationality, religion, or gender, including but not limited to students with severe, moderate, and low Special Education needs; gifted learners; students with limited English speaking skills; and migrant students.
Reports learning or other difficulties encountered by students to the certificated staff.
Assists with test administration.
Scores objective tests according to procedures prescribed by certificated personnel.
Ability to get along with students, staff, and community members.
Serve as a role model and present a positive attitude to students, staff, and parents at all times.
Basic office skills necessary include word processing, typing, filing, sorting, etc.
Record keeping.
Ability to supervise large numbers of students during recess, lunch, field trips, and in other educational settings.
Ability to work one-on-one with a variety of students (gifted, special needs/Special Education, and regular education students).
Ability to handle disruptions and behavior problems.
Comply with and enforce all school policies and procedures.
Ability to understand and follow both written and oral directions.
Properly handle body fluids, change diapers after receiving training.
If necessary, willingness to learn sign language.
Support the value of education, promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude, assist teaching staff in establishing an appropriate environment to enhance learning, and model appropriate behavior.
Must be punctual and have good attendance.
Maintain confidentiality.
Other duties as assigned, but not limited to: Library cataloging and checkout, Substitute Teacher, Supervise students on the school bus, playground, lunchroom, hallways, as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
High School Diploma or GED
AA Degree or have earned a minimum of 78 quarter credits from an approved college or university or pass(ed) the Educational Testing Services (ETS) Parapro Exam as per standards established by the State of Washington. Praxis for parapro exam accepted.
Fingerprinting and School Background check required.
The employee must satisfactorily pass a drug screening, both at the time of hire and throughout employment.

Highly organized and efficient worker; skilled at multitasking.
Current first aid/CPR certification (may earn during first year of employment).
Possess clerical skills, including computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Windows, Outlook) and Google Applications For Education (GAFE)

Be personable, patient, courteous and willing to explain information to others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and others.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong spelling skills and an ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials and instructions and communicate this information in terms the student(s) can understand.
Foreign language skills are desirable but not required. Ability to communicate with special needs student(s) using sign language or a willingness to learn if needed.
Basic math skills are needed including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics and algebra as needed.

Physical Requirements
Driver must be able to lift 100 pounds and must be in excellent physical condition.
Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read, without strain, printed material the size of typewritten characters are required, glasses permitted.
Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, is required.
Applicants must have mental and emotional stability.
- Significant: sitting, talking, vision, hearing, use of phone, lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Frequent: standing, walking, driving, repetitive motion, lifting up to 25 pounds, use of computer, looking at computer monitor, moderate noise levels
