Electrical Controls Engineer
Job Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer with expertise in PLC programming, electrical system design, and capital equipment development. This role involves designing, programming, and troubleshooting state-of-the-art packaging machinery while collaborating with engineering teams and providing technical training to field service technicians.
- Hands-on involvement in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, CODESYS, Siemens, Beckhoff, etc.)
- Up to 20% domestic travel required (international travel is a possibility).
- Final round interviews will be conducted in person, with travel expenses covered (excluding mileage reimbursement).
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Programming:
- Develop and implement PLC programs for high-speed automation equipment.
- Customize program features based on customer specifications and requirements.
- Design, test, and troubleshoot motion control systems (servo drives, Allen-Bradley).
- Create wiring schematics, programming diagrams, and complete bill of materials.
- Run initial commissioning of machines, debugging any issues that arise during testing.
Technical Support & Field Service:
- Support field technicians with electrical troubleshooting and programming of replacement components.
- Provide technical training at client facilities when needed.
- Travel up to 20% for installations, troubleshooting, and client support.
Collaboration & Development:
- Work closely with engineers and technical staff to ensure efficient system designs.
- Contribute to research and development projects for future automation solutions.
- Maintain compliance with existing industry standards and best practices.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience in capital equipment design and service.
- 2-4 years of experience in electrical design for automation or machinery.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD, or similar).
- In-depth understanding of PLC hardware, software platforms, and HMI programming.
- Programming experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs or CODESYS PLC systems (Bosch RexRoth preferred, Siemens, Beckhoff, etc.).
- Proficiency in IEC programming languages: Ladder logic, Function Blocks, and Structured Text.
- Web development skills preferred: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, Python, and Visual Basic.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 20% (domestic and international).

- Work Environment: Full-time, on-site position in Elgin, IL.
