Responsibilities


Under minimal supervision, the Labor Relations Manager will plan, manage and oversee Labor Relations processes and programs. Responsibilities include: managing Labor Relations programs and processes, providing advice and counsel regarding Labor Relations issues to stakeholders, and developing and conducting training programs in support of Labor Relations programs. This job classification requires knowledge of current Labor Relations and Human Resources practices and methods including regulatory requirements and compliance and the ability to implement and administer Human Resource programs and policies that strategically support the company’s mission and goals.


  • You will manage Labor Relations programs and processes including labor contract and grievance administration
  • You will investigate opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.
  • You will compile and prepare competitive industry research on labor contracts; conducting competitive analyses and modeling and making recommendations regarding contract changes, enhancements and improvements that are in the best interest of the company.
  • You will attend negotiations as a second chair and assume the lead position in the absence of the Director of Labor Relations.
  • You will represent the company during the entire grievance life cycle and resolve grievances involving all types of employment matters; ensuring consistent adherence to collective bargaining agreement(s).
  • You will work closely with attorneys on grievance cases that are being arbitrated, prepare briefs for arbitration cases, and work with operational management.
  • You will provide advice, counsel and coaching to district, store and Human Resources staff on topics such as labor contracts, discipline, payroll, benefits, scheduling and various employee relations issues related to Labor Relations.
  • You will interpret and administer labor contracts with respect to grievances, wages, employee welfare, health care, pensions, union and management practices and other contractual issues; advising on the application of federal, state and local regulations and escalating issues to senior management when necessary.
  • You will develop and conduct training classes on topics such as discipline, contract interpretation, grievance handling, industry updates, and other employee and labor relations topics as they relate to Labor Relations.
  • You will prepare letters, memos, reports and proposals that provide information on labor contracts and Human Resources policies, programs, practices and general business correspondence.
  • You will serve as department liaison for information systems, payroll projects and related task forces.
  • You will cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels within and outside the company.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field plus six (6) years experience in labor relations or as a human resource generalist or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in retail industry preferred.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Extensive knowledge of labor relations and human resource practices, methods and processes including, compensation and benefits, rewards, colleague engagement, employment law, employee relations, payroll and training and development.
  • Extensive knowledge of labor law and collective bargaining trends.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations and requirements related to human resources including, ERISA, EEO, ADA, Worker’s Compensation, COBRA, Wage & Hour and other related regulations.


SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with economic and wage data.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software (i.e. Microsoft Office suite).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Work Environment


Work is performed in a business office environment with frequent travel to off-site meetings.

Salary : $85,500 - $117,610
