Director of Student Services
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, designs, implements, delivers, and directs programs and services deemed appropriate for students who are in need of specialized education services.
Essential Functions
- Applies Ralston student services policies and procedures which govern the identification, verification, and placement of students who are eligible to receive special services.
- Consults with administrators, teachers, parents, and students (when appropriate) on matters related to student services programs and policies.
- Designs and administers procedures for the referral, evaluation, placement, program development, and evaluation of students who are eligible to receive special services.
- Directs and assists others regarding the development, implementation, and supervision of all curricular and behavioral expectations for eligible students.
- Ensures that all district policies and practices related to specialized student services are in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws.
- Coordinates with other central office staff members to provide in-service and staff development training in areas related to student services.
- Supervises the maintenance of all student services records.
- Submits all applicable state and federal reports related to special education and students with disabilities.
- Participates, as needed, in conflict resolution of sensitive student services issues as well as parental/community concerns.
- Supervises the delivery of health, counseling, and school psychology services to eligible students.
- Supervises the enrollment, transfer, and placement of students who are eligible to receive special services within the district.
- Assists with the development of board policies and procedures related to student services.
- Develops all grant materials related to the district’s special education program.
- Serves as the case manager for all secondary, Level 3 special education students.
- Directs the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s ELL program, including the newcomer magnet sites.
- Coordinates the use of foreign language interpreters for district and building level activities.
- Supervises and administers the district’s Title 1 program.
- Supervises and administers the district’s HAL program
- Assists the Director of Elementary Education with the district’s early childhood
education program.
- Maintains a regular and predictable attendance history while employed by the district
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of special education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc., as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the ability to formulate action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education.
- Strong leadership and planning skills.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work with others.
- Possession of superior oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with others.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
Nebraska teaching certificate with endorsements in the areas of administration,supervision, special education, or equivalent.
Education
Minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited college or university with a major in school administration or educational leadership.
Experience
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in special education.
- Successful administrative experience preferred.
