The primary purpose of the Dean of Students is to facilitate behavioral alignment, ensure the professional development of teachers, and adhere to compliance related to legal requirements. Lead initiatives related to campus culture, parent involvement, and the social, emotional, and learning needs of district students. This job description is district-wide. Not all duties are applicable at all campuses.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of teaching experience required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Campus leadership experience preferred.
- Active teaching certificate required.
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to utilize computer software and interpret computer printout data, especially discipline/attendance data.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise Campus Personnel
- Co-Supervise Custodians and Administrative Assistants.
Instructional Support
- Assist Dean of Academics in balancing class rosters with student behaviors considered.
- Meet with teachers individually prior to the beginning of school to ensure proper procedures are established.
- Serves as a campus and/or district trainer in professional development initiatives with a focus on Lemov techniques (including New Teacher Orientation (NTO), August Professional Development, mentor training, appraisal system, staff meetings, and data day, etc.).
- Ensures effective cycles of feedback for teachers and models effective feedback through a targeted caseload of teachers.
- Walking through all classrooms at least weekly to identify trends and opportunities for celebration and growth.
- Support the implementation of teacher evaluations for both the Fall and Spring cycles including observations, feedback write-up, and feedback meetings.
- Attend ARD, 504, ELL, LPAC, and Student Team meetings as needed.
Resource Management and Operations
- Manage attendance records including watch-list communication with parents, students, and administration
- Manage, train, and maintain documentation for emergency response and school safety, including drills, safety committee meetings, staff development, and general campus security.
- Fire drills (1 fire drill per month)
- Tornado drills (2 tornado drills per year)
- Lockdown drills (2 lockdown drills per year)
- Bus evacuation training (1 per year)
- Safety committee meetings (1 per Month)
- Health plan monitoring and response
- Responsible for maintenance of facility, purchase of supplies, coordinating contracted services, communicating with district maintenance staff, and overall operation of the campus.
- Schedule and supervise daily campus activities to include morning, lunch, and afternoon duties.
- Monitor and maintain staff event and leave calendars through Skyward and Google Calendar.
- Responsible for budget management and preparation as assigned.
- Development, approval, management, and reconciliation of fundraisers.
- Manage uAttend and time clock paperwork for all support staff.
- Assist in organizing, maintaining, and communicating enrollment information and rosters for campus.
- Monitor and ensure compliance of health requirements such as Hearing/Vision/Scoliosis screenings and immunization records.
Student Behavior
- Establish, implement, and monitor a behavior tracking system to identify trends in behavior management issues with a focus on subpopulations
- Create, monitor, implement behavior intervention plans with the support of the teacher and support team members.
- Analyze and interpret student behavior data with teachers to lead to improvement in classroom management.
- Monitor, implement, revise annual student handbook and campus policies.
- Ensure adherence to district policies and procedures for student discipline including student conversations, parent meetings, team meetings, and expulsion hearings as needed.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication with campus leadership about any concerns.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Communicates clearly with teachers, administrators, parents, and the community in oral and written form including social media as appropriate.
Campus Culture and Activities
- Plan and host student activities such as quarterly/monthly/annual awards ceremonies, student staff pictures, fall/spring student events, graduation, dances, speakers/tours, college tours, etc.
- Plan and manage parent involvement activities continuously throughout the school year such as meals, volunteer opportunities, and performances/programs, etc.
- Support student council activities as applicable.
- Ensure that every student participates in a quality morning meeting daily.
- Ensure that community groups are held at age-appropriate levels and support students socially and emotionally, as well as college/career support.
- Actively participate in GEO meetings as the school liaison to support their efforts such as (snack shop, recycling, meetings, splash n dash, Parent Teacher meals, dates for events, district pot-luck, money requests for campuses, other events).
- Coordinate and implement student transition programs for students bridging from one campus to another at all levels.
- Facilitate the organization of meals during campus PD days before, during, and at the end of each school year.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical & computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Other Duties
- Be the Administrator on Duty as needed for Athletic/Academic/Social events as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires considerable close up work with computer video displays.
