Position: Insurance Follow-up Representative 

Supervisor Title: Business Office Manager

Regular Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00-4:00 PM, occasional weekends/holidays

Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Work Location: Charlotte

Job Summary: Insurance Follow-up Representative is responsible for physician billing. The duties include working with payers to resolve issues and facilitate prompt payment of claims. Thorough knowledge and understanding of patient billing, claims submission, and payer specific requirements is a must. This position is highly focused on the resolution of insurance processing errors and denials. Payers include but are not limited to Blue Cross, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare and other commercial health insurance carriers.

Specific duties include:

  • Follow up with payer to determine why claim hasn’t paid
  • Work rejected claims report
  • Contact patient when necessary to obtain correct information to resolve issue for a prompt payment
  • Work Clearinghouse reports
  • Submit claims, paper & electronic
  • Submit adequate claim documentation
  • Effectively appeal denied claims

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma is required
  • 2 years Medical Billing/Insurance Follow-up experience required
  • NextGen experience is preferred
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong problem solving and research skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with medical insurance explanations of benefits and denial codes
  • EMR software, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Customer service experience required
