POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager and the direct guidance of the Welding Department coordinator, interprets engineering drawings, prepares components for welding, and operates a variety of welding and weld cleaning equipment to produce the desired welded parts for industrial bakery equipment. Works with engineering and manufacturing management to ensure the functionality of component parts on the machine, assembles components, assembles machines and sub assemblies, and performs a variety of hand and machine-assisted function necessary to fabricate and weld metal parts and assemble industrial bakery systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Interprets engineering weldment assembly designs, drawings and bills of materials to ensure that the design will yield the desired welded component or assembly, fit with the mating parts, and function properly within the machine. Collaborates with engineering to define most economical welding processes to meet the design requirements for strength, closure and sanitation.
2. Interprets engineering assembly drawings and bills of materials to identify welded components to be produced and assembled, their mating parts and their function within the machine
3. Applies MIG, TIG, spot and other applicable welding techniques to fuse similar and dissimilar metals by selecting and employing the most appropriate filler materials. When necessary, builds fixtures to facilitate welding complicated or multiple welded assemblies.
4. Selects the appropriate gauge thickness of sheet metal to meet design specifications.  Performs a variety of machine assisted and hand operations including layout patterns, sawing, grinding, drilling, tapping, shearing, punching, bending sheet metal parts, mating components, fitting parts, attaching component part together related to the preparing components to be welded and the assembly of industrial bakery machinery’ and verifying that parts move or provide appropriate rigidity as required by the design.
5. When required by the design executes sanitary welds that meet food processing industry standards. Cleans welds by using hand grinder to remove the excess filler material or weld splatter and/or using the clean-up booth.
6. Performs a variety of machine assisted and hand operations related to the fabrication of sheet metal parts for industrial bakery machinery including shearing, punching, bending, polishing, and finishing sheet metal parts as required by the design.
7. Aligns and fits mating parts to maintain the proper clearance or interference based on the application and the engineering specifications
8. Maintains quality by inspecting parts during the fabrication and assembly operations using measuring devices, and gauges to ensure manufacturing consistency to required specifications.
9. Use hand and power tools to deburr, polish, attach, align, tighten and/or adjust machine parts.
10. May be asked to assume duties of the welding coordinator and provide technical leadership to welding personnel assigned projects
11. Cleans equipment and work area as necessary.
12. Provides feedback to co-workers, supervisor, and Company management on a regular basis to ensure efficient and effective assembly operations.
13. Participates and adheres to Company policies and programs on occupational health and safety, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience, vocational –technical school training that included sheet metal fabrication.  Usually three years of industrial sheet metal experience including two year with some MIG, TIG and spot welding experience.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering designs, and component and assembly drawings including bend radii, fits, clearances, tolerances and weld symbols.
• Demonstrated ability to MIG, TIG and spot weld sheet metal components to one another and to other component parts. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of sheet metal gauge thickness system.
• Demonstrated ability to operate knee press, metal shears, single station metal punches, plasma or laser metal cutting equipment, hand machine tools, and lifting devices necessary to do metal fabrication and assembly operations, and machine assembly operations. Demonstrated ability to drill and tap holes in as defined on engineering drawings or in assembly,
• Demonstrated ability to effectively and safely assemble two classes of the products (i.e. sheeting, extrusion, conveyors, ovens) produced and sold by Reading Bakery Systems, as certified by Company training standards and productivity and quality performance records
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and read and interpret documents, instructions, engineering drawings, and procedure manuals.
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills to effectively interface with all levels of Company management and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry, geometry, percent, and ratios
• Demonstrated reasoning ability to solve practical problems
• Demonstrated ability to measure products to less than 0.001 (1/1000) inch using specifically designed measuring gauges and precise measuring instruments.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR KNOWLEDGE

Certified in sanitary welding processes especially pertaining to sheet metal work

Certified forklift operator’s license

Must have personal hand tools; wrenches, socket sets, screw drivers, and other tools needed to perform sheet metal fabrication work and assemble industrial bakery equipment

Demonstrated ability to use company supplied tools; files, hammers, drills, lifts and other tools required to assemble industrial bakery equipment
