POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting tool room activity for both the garment and the corrugated plant, as well as fabricating replacement and new parts for company machinery and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will interface very closely with the maintenance and engineering groups to fabricate tabletop fixtures for automated sewing operations (clamps, templates, etc), as well as other tooling on an as-needed basis.
- Extremely familiar with the safe and efficient operation of metal turning lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, band saws and horizontal cutters, and sinker EDM (electro-discharge) equipment (to include electrode preparation, programming, and dielectric bath maintenance).
- Must be able to design basic fixtures and gages.
- Must understand the basic procedures for proper hardening, tempering, and annealing of various steel alloys.
- Design and fabricate automated sewing guides, work aids, and fixtures for automatic and semi-automatic sewing.
- Complexity ranges from very simple to somewhat complex.
- When necessary, and whenever possible, repair, replace and/or fabricate specialized equipment used in die cutters, slitters, slotters, and other fiberboard-processing equipment.
- Manufacture, wherever possible, obsolete machine components.
- Blade re-sharpening, scissor re-sharpening, punch and anvil dressing.
- Carry out the accurate fabrication of engineered drawings, using various steel and aluminum alloys, conventional plastics (ABS, Delrin, acrylics).
- Make production work aids.
- May assist with simple machining and modifications to existing molded apparel pieces for use in prototypes and samples.
- Modify milling or turning buttons, buckles and clasps.
- Assist with making accommodations for new hires and personnel re-assignments.
- Make dress tool room cutters, end mills & drill bits.
- Assist manufacturing engineers with new project initiatives that require tooling and/or fabrication support.
- Maintain a place for safekeeping chemicals, cutting fluids, layout fluids, etc.
- Assist the maintenance team with special projects.
- Mentor other ReadyOne associates and personnel.
- Perform daily basic preventive maintenance on tool room equipment.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Qualifications
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed on the job analysis are representative of the skill, and/or ability required.
Education: High School Diploma or GED minimum; technical/vocational school highly desirable.
Experience: Minimum of five years tool room experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specific Skills: English proficiency required/ Spanish proficiency helpful. Must be adept at mathematics. Basic reading, writing, and some advanced arithmetic skills required. Basic understanding of geometry required. Some basic trigonometry is helpful, but not essential.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: Must be familiar with the use and care of specialized measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, depth gages, height gages, optical comparators, etc. Must be able to work with tolerances as small as .0005” inches.
This person must have experience with steel alloys of various types to include, but not limited to, S7, A2, 01, CRS, stainless steels (mostly austenitic 300 series). More common and basic alloys in aluminum and plastics will be employed at ReadyOne Industries. Some TIG welding experience very helpful.
Other Skills and Abilities: Effective oral and written communication skills required. Ability to use general office equipment (i.e. facsimile, photocopy, and/or related office peripherals). Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word helpful, but not essential.
Physical Demands: Frequently sits, bends, kneels, and reaches out with hands/arms. Frequent lifting of up to 40 lbs. Frequently sits bends, kneels, twist and turn and reaches out with hands/arms. Work Environment: Working conditions are of a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 40 pounds. Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots.
