Position Overview
North Coast is seeking a motivated and certified individual to join our team as an Assistant Instructor for the summer. The Assistant Instructor will work alongside a Lead Instructor or other experienced staff to teach sailing to students of varying ages and skill levels. This role includes assisting with on-the-water instruction, teaching basic sailing skills, knots, and parts of a boat, while ensuring a fun and safe environment. The Assistant Instructor will also help with equipment maintenance and organization. This position requires a basic level of sailing knowledge and a commitment to fostering a positive, learning-focused atmosphere. The Assistant Instructor will be responsible for maintaining the sailing sheds and ensuring all equipment is stored properly.
Responsibilities
- Assist in teaching sailing techniques, boat parts, and knot tying to students of various skill levels.
- Provide on-water support by taking over student boats when necessary.
- Facilitate a safe and enjoyable learning environment for sailors.
- Help launch and haul safety boats each week.
- Keep sailing sheds clean, organized, and ensure proper storage of equipment.
- Assist with various waterfront tasks and help house staff as needed.
- Maintain safety protocols and contribute to a secure, effective instruction atmosphere.
Schedule
The expected work schedule will require approximately 30-40 hours per week, with some flexibility to adjust hours depending on the needs of the program. Hours will vary based on the sailing schedule and program requirements. Approximate start date is June 2nd, with an end date of August 25th or when school starts
Pay
$13.50/hr
1-year membership to the Bayfield Rec Center from May to May
Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate
- CPR/First Aid certified (Lifeguard certification is preferred).
- Age 16
- Basic sailing knowledge and ability to assist with student instruction on the water.
- Ability to work under the direction of a Lead Instructor and collaborate with other staff.
- Must be reliable, flexible, and committed to creating a positive, safe environment for students.
- Preferred: Previous experience teaching sailing or working with youth in a waterfront setting.
