Hardware Design Engineer

About Us

We are on the forefront of deploying unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) swarms for defense applications and are seeking a highly skilled Hardware Engineer with Product Design experience to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in designing, prototyping, testing, and refining the hardware components and systems that make up our unmanned ground vehicles. The ideal candidate will specialize in hardware design, prototyping, and product development, ensuring that our robotic platforms are robust, reliable, and optimized for performance in demanding environments. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to take a lead role in developing cutting-edge robotic systems from the ground up, contributing to the overall design and functionality of our products. 

Required Qualifications 

• Hardware Design: Experience designing and developing mechanical hardware components and systems for robotic platforms. Strong experience with CAD software (e.g. Inventor, Solidworks, etc) 
• Product Design: Expertise in the full product development lifecycle, from concept through production, including designing for manufacturability, reliability, and performance in harsh environments. 
• Prototyping: Proficiency in rapid prototyping techniques, including 3D printing, CNC machining, and other fabrication methods to quickly iterate and test hardware designs.
• System Integration: Experience integrating hardware components with software systems, ensuring seamless communication and operation between all parts of the robotic system. Strong requirement for hands-on fabrication of in-house prototypes.
• Testing and Validation: Experience in developing and executing testing protocols to validate hardware performance and reliability, including environmental, shock and vibration testing, thermal testing, etc. Experience with analysis tools (e.g. FEA) is highly desirable. 
• Comfortable working in the high-paced, fluid environment of a tech startup.
• Excited to contribute to the defense of the United States and its allies.
• Able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance. 
• Ability to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ area.

Preferred qualifications 

• Experience with unmanned ground vehicles or other unmanned system development. 
• Experience with ruggedized product design for military or industrial applications.
• Strong background in embedded systems design. 
• Familiarity with simulation tools for mechanical and electrical design.
• Proven track record of taking products from concept to production in a high-tech environment. 

Compensation: $120-150k base equity
