Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accountant to join our team. We are looking for a highly organized, analytic, and self-motivated candidate with great attention to detail and a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate is a natural problem-solver, able to work independently, and proactively seeks out projects to assist their teammates when they have bandwidth.

The Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial transactions, preparing financial reports and supporting schedules, analyzing and verifying data, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. You will work closely with project managers, service managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely billing. This role requires proficiency in accounting software, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of financial principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain financial records, including journals, ledgers, and balance sheets.
• Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
• Prepare monthly accruals, identifying and reporting expenses and revenues as required by GAAP.
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist with tax preparation and filing.
• Support audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations as needed.
• Review and verify the accuracy of invoices, receipts, and other financial documents.
• Prepare and review Work-In-Progress reporting, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of WIP for invoicing and financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze commission reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
• Day-to-day collaboration with accounts payable, invoicing, sales, and service teams in the operations.
• Collaborate with internal teams to support financial decision-making and process improvements.
• Stay updated on financial regulations, industry trends, and best practices.

Skills and Qualifications

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Xero, or similar).
• Experience with expense systems (i.e. Concur), a plus.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
• Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

• Full-time, office-based position with occasional site visits if required.
• Work hours may vary depending on project timelines, month-end, and year-end close.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally lifting and carrying materials up to 20 pounds may be required.

Experience

• A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accountancy or similar role.
• Fuel industry experience, a plus.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field, preferred or equivalent experience.
