Region Nine Housing Corporation is looking for a Service Coordinator for Eastside Apartments, located in Nanticoke, PA.
Region Nine Housing Corporation, a non-profit organization, was established in 1970 to sponsor, promote, and provide affordable housing to meet the needs of low to moderate income seniors, persons with disabilities, and families.
The position will be a part-time position of 14 to 21 hours per week. The ideal candidate will provide general service management which includes intake, education (services available and application procedures) and referral of residents to service providers in the general community.
The major functions of the Service Coordinator will include:
Demonstrate working knowledge of supportive services and other resources in the area served by the project.
Demonstrate ability to advocate, organize, problem-solve and provide results for the residents they serve
Work with management on helping the residents understand house rules, and ensure residents can uphold the obligations of their lease, by providing assisted services
Provide information and referrals to residents and families on programs and resources on local, state and federal levels
Interview and screen residents for eligibility for programs and entitlements and assist with application procedures
Assess the needs of residents, including physical, mental, social and financial needs and develop a plan for service delivery
Monitor and evaluate service delivery, and reassess as necessary
Establish links with agencies and services providers, including the local county division on aging
Serve as residents’ advocate/liaison
Contact family members as needed to obtain information, discuss service arrangements, or to encourage family involvement
Plan and implement monthly programs and activities to meet the needs of residents, including establishment of social, educational and recreational programs
Develop volunteer programs and informal support networks
Organize on-site social and recreational activities for residents. These will include holiday parties, monthly birthday celebrations, bingo, movie days, bus trips, weekly exercise classes, etc.
Coordinates with management on issues related to health and safety and building/unit maintenance
Identify potential resident problems (health-related, interpersonal, etc.) and intervene before the situation becomes a crisis
Provide crisis intervention when necessary
Qualifications:
A degree or studies in social work is preferable, but other college degrees or studies are acceptable
One to three years of experience in social services delivery with senior citizens and/or families preferred
Must exhibit a compassionate, understanding and professional attitude toward the senior citizen and affordable housing population
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Must have access to a vehicle to attend workshops and conferences and to meet with social services organizations
