What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Regional School Safety Coordinator position at Regional Office of Education #33?
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for working with school districts, individual schools, and appropriate staff to ensure a safe and secure environment, both physically and procedurally. A focus is on building capacity among school personnel through the provision of expert guidance on any and all school safety efforts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Program/Department
- Provide school safety initiatives in the region and within the ROE organization.
- Ensure the regional understanding of School Safety Pillar #1: Behavior Threat Assessment and Management.
- Ensure the regional understanding of School Safety Pillar #2: Hardening of Facilities.
- Ensure the regional understanding of School Safety Pillar #3: Standard Response Protocol.
- Ensure the regional understanding of School Safety Pillar #4: Other (GIS Mapping, communications, reunification, etc.).
- Become certified to conduct Safety Site Assessments.
- Become a trainer of Standard Response Protocol.
- Become a trainer of Standard Reunification Method.
- Remain current on emerging school safety topics through professional learning on topics around threat assessment and school safety by attending local, statewide, and national school safety related conferences.
- Facilitate the Regional Office of Education #33’s School Safety Task Force.
- Facilitate Behavior Threat Assessment Training and complete ongoing training to remain certified as needed or required.
- Facilitate Standard Response Protocol and Standard Response Method training.
- Facilitate School Safety Week through providing training and round-table discussions for appropriate school personnel.
- Represent Regional Office of Education #33 on NISSA and statewide school safety committees and serve as a resource to local school districts on the Illinois Homeland Security Advisory Council’s Prevention Committee statewide school safety recommendations.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate change and meet the immediate needs of the districts served.
- Develop partnerships with local law enforcement, fire, and mental health providers and serve as a liaison between the school district and local first responders.
- Establish collaborative relationships with district stakeholders within Regional Office of Education #33 region to provide support in areas, including, but not limited to, behavioral threat assessment, digital threat assessment, student and school safety, restorative justice, creating threat assessment plans, and building capacity around student and school safety
- Work collaboratively with district and school leaders to support and meet their needs around training staff, including School Resource Officers, within the established threat assessment safety plans.
- Meet individually with school district personnel to move school safety initiatives forward.
- Identify community resources to help meet district, student and family needs around digital literacy and student safety.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of services and contracts.
- Seek out and support funding resources of contracts, grants, etc.
- Conduct quarterly school safety meetings with school district representatives.
- Develop school safety materials, forms, and procedures as assigned.
- Coordinate regional threat assessment teams.
- Coordinate regional reunification systems.
- Work collaboratively and regularly with the marketing and communications coordinator to broadly and creatively advertise information and PD opportunities related to scope of work.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Professional Learning to ensure professional learning processes and systems are followed.
- Work collaboratively with the compliance department to build capacity and a greater understanding of district and school needs surrounding student and staff safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of ROE Services.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, & CRITICAL SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Competence in utilizing Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Virtual Meeting Platforms.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and an acceptable/courteous manner.
- Understanding and awareness of multicultural needs.
- Ability to maintain a positive and collaborative relationship/attitude across all ROE programs.
- Ability to organize and facilitate workshops and trainings.
- Ability to provide professional service and consultation to school districts.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
