What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIFTED AND TALENTED TEACHER position at Regional School Unit 24?
- Organizing, implementing, and supporting extended curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of our 3-12th grade gifted students;
- Coordinate the process to identify gifted and talented students including the review of student data and the testing of students;
- Develop and maintain records and reports as required;
- Create and monitor student individual learning plans;
- Plan and develop gifted programming using appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities and materials that reflect the needs of gifted and talented students; Provide opportunities for students to develop innovative products and sophisticated performances that reflect individuality and creativity;
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and/or provide further academic challenge for identified students;
- Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, classroom teachers and other relevant professionals regarding gifted and talented students.

Regional School Unit #24 is located in beautiful Sullivan, Maine. Our flagship 6-12 facility, Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus, is located approximately 15 minutes east of Ellsworth, our county seat, and 40 miles east from Bangor. In addition, we are just a short drive to Bar Harbor and the beautiful Acadia National Park. Our district is currently home to approximately 800 students in grades Pre-K through 12. This position is based out of our 6-12 Learning Campus, while also serving our PK-5 district based schools.
Regional School Unit #24 is seeking a high-energy, reliable, honest, and collaborative colleague who is passionate about working with exceptional students. The RSU 24 Gifted and Talented Teacher works out of and manages our Maker Space featuring 3D Printers, a vinyl cutter, robotics equipment, a CNC machine, and much more! This position requires demonstration of knowledge, understanding and application of appropriate teaching techniques to maximize gifted learners' growth, along with meeting the social-emotional needs of gifted students.
The successful candidate will hold a Maine Department of Education Teacher Certification #690 Gifted Talented, as well as a current MDOE Criminal History Records Check. Pay is based upon experience and level of education.
