What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-Time Culinary Arts Instructor / Temporary position at Renton Technical College?
This position is represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association. This is a full-time teaching position and may inlcude online or hybrid courses. This position is scheduled to begin Winter Quarter 2025. This position will be issued a temporary 2 quarter (6 month) contract, with the possibility of continuation as a full-time instructor in the 2025-2026 academic year. The salary range for this position is $59,792.13 - $71,410.38. New Full-Time Faculty are placed at the base of the salary range. For more information, please see the RFT Contract. - Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Effectively teach curriculum at a variety of skill levels and evaluate student progress towards learning objectives for the culinary arts program.
- Create program-learning activities that supports individual student learning needs and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards the learning objectives.
- Design courses that include methods to meet food cost budget and daily production requirements.
- Develop and update curriculum as required by the College to respond to industry trends and to improve equitable student outcomes.
- Maintain office hours convenient to students.
- Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students with varied backgrounds and career goals.
- Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes, including thoughtfully designed individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests.
- Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small groups and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socioeconomic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Five years of management experience in the culinary industry. Teaching experience and current knowledge in all phases of culinary arts preferred.
- Ability to design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.
- Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners as well as with individuals whose first language is not English.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a food handler’s permit from the health department.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment a current healthcare provider CPR, First Aid and Blood borne Pathogen Certificates.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Experience and/or willingness to incorporate technology in the classroom.
- Ability to proctor National Restaurant Association Serve-Safe certifications.
- Associate degree in business, hospitality or other appropriate discipline preferred.
- Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Speaker of a language in addition to English is preferred– preference for top spoken languages in the RTC service area (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).
