The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking one (1) qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Special Projects Coordinator for the Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Bureau of Mental Health (BMH) in the Division of Mental Hygiene at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH).
The Division of Mental Hygiene is responsible for developing, purchasing, and monitoring contracts with community agencies and hospitals to ensure that New York City residents - particularly children, adolescents, and adults with mental illnesses - have access to a wide network of mental hygiene treatment programs and support services. The Division also conducts needs assessments and epidemiological analyses, creates annual plans for the state, develops and implements policy and programmatic initiatives, and evaluates the performance of the mental hygiene system.
The Bureau of Mental Health's (BMH) mission is to improve mental health and wellness for people in New York City, and to eliminate racial and other long-standing societal disparities by providing services, resources, and opportunities to New Yorkers that are grounded in accurate, data driven information that fosters community participation, thus reducing the stigma around mental health. This includes procuring and monitoring more than 500 contracted programs that provide mental health treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, supportive housing, care coordination and advocacy services; and operating court-mandated Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT), Single Point of Access (SPOA) for mobile treatment and care coordination, and the NYC Supportive Treatment And Recovery Team (NYC START) for people with first episode psychosis.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement special projects requested by the Assistant Commissioner
- Coordinate responses to and staffing for meetings, briefings, and presentation requests made by internal and external partners.
- Develop reports, memoranda, talking points, briefing materials, and presentations for use by the Assistant Commissioner and other senior leaders in the Bureau based on quantitative and qualitative provided by bureau subject matter experts.
- Develop or improve upon, implement, and maintain project management systems which track communication and deadlines of requests, projects, and other time-limited or ongoing initiatives.
- Participate in Race to Justice, the agency's racial justice and equity initiative, including providing assistance to design and implement projects to embed racial equity and social justice within the office, Division, agency, and health and behavioral health field.
- Liaise with bureau, divisional and departmental offices for assigned projects and workgroups and on behalf of AC
- Participate in an inter-agency Crisis Collaborative and organize meeting schedules and communications
- Coordinate with MHy Division's External Affairs and Communications Manager for bureau's communications requests and projects
- Responsible for Continuing Education Unit process and review of applications for training
- Review letters of support requested from external partners and obtain Department approval.
- Experience working in the public health or mental health
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
- Proficiency in Excel, Access, Project Management, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive responsibilities effectively and independently in fast paced environment.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Heath, Public Administration, Public Policy or an associated field.

- Experience with and dedication to racial justice and health equity
- Able to build and maintain effective working relationships across programs and with outside agencies
- Demonstrate initiative, reliability and resourcefulness
- Demonstrate ability to work in a team
