Our Arborist team performs tree care on Association land to protect members, prevent damage to property and promote the health of natural resources. Work is performed under general supervision of the Arborist Supervisor
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Performs complex tree work including pruning, removals and maintenance. Work is accomplished using climbing, aerial lift, chainsaw, winches, ropes, brush chipper and other specialized tools and techniques. Work is performed in accordance with ANSI standards. Possesses the necessary rigging and lowering skill to perform tree pruning and removals safely. Develops and implements work and safety plans for each job.
2. Operates large truck and trailer, skid-steer with implements and front-end loader.
3. Demonstrates high safety standards, sound tree risk assessment and tree ID skills, equipment inspection skills, proper application of approved knots, proper climbing techniques and procedures, proper rigging and pruning skills.
4. Participates in invasive-exotic control, monthly brush chipping program and other Natural Areas initiatives.
5. Performs routine maintenance on tools and equipment used for tree care. Inspects life-support gear for defects, incompatibility and use that exceeds designated service life.
6. Collaborates with other Natural Areas staff on tree inspections, natural area inventories and investigation of member concerns. Must converse with residents on tree issues and property boundary questions.
7. Designated Emergency Services Personnel.
8. Participates in snow removal operations.
9. Must be able to operate an aerial lift and perform tree crane removals.
10. Performs pruning along wood edges bordering ballfields, tennis courts and clusters. Performs ornamental pruning at recreation areas.
11. Performs removals or pruning for new tree diseases and insect pests such as Emerald Ash Borer outbreak.
12. Acts as mentor to Arborist Assistant. Provides training on safe chainsaw use to personnel on other crews.
13. Education and Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus three years’ experience or training in tree climbing and maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
License / Certifications :
- Driver's License (Required)
- ISA certified Arborist certification (Preferred)
- ISA Tree Worker certification (Preferred)
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
Requires First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of hire date, will be offered in-house.
