The Director of Stores (DOS) provides day-to-day sales leadership to ensure the performance, growth and profitability of retail stores in a defined market. The incumbent builds and executes annual business plans through collaboration with executive leadership, sales operations and support teams, marketing, finance and other departments. He/she delivers on financial and operational targets through the direction and development of all designated market retail operations, while developing and leading a retail operations team capable of supporting performance and growth strategies. The DOS is accountable for the company’s current locations, meetings, and exceeding customer satisfaction and sales targets, which include sales per guest (SPG), gross margin (EGM), and other key performance metrics.
Primary Job Functions
Deliver World Class Team Member, Guest and Community experiences in every personal interaction.
Work directly with the CEO to set annual goals for market sales budgets, SPG, gross margin, and improvement initiatives.
Responsible for leading, developing, and holding Store Managers accountable to deliver the companywide KPI goals in each location they are responsible for.
To be able to deliver the sales budget and KPI’s, the DOS will focus on the following sales processes:
Monitor and Manage Talent and Staffing
Onboarding New Team Members and Leaders
Engage, Develop and Performance Manage Team Members
Comfort Test Process
Manage Prospecting, Follow-Up and Guest Retention
Manage Quality and Compliance
Be in a Position to Impact
The items above will be measured quarterly for compliance.
Conduct audits and store performance analyses through the “Perfect Store Visit” format including visual presentation, merchandising, product pricing/tagging, signage, seasonal display, inventory, velocity, competitive shopping, point of sale, associate training and professional development, etc. (To be defined)
Set goals and deliver results related to customer service and satisfaction, such as Google Reviews..
Present Critical Thinking strength through innovative ideas, project management and partnership with other Departments (merchandising, store operations, marketing, supply chain, human capital, customer service, etc.)
Schedule Expectations
This is a full time in person, in store, high impact role with no remote flexibility. Travel is required 100%, but all stores are within 2 hours of each other. The typical daily schedule is 9am-6pm.
Scheduled to work a minimum of 50 hours per week including retail hours and schedules including but not limited to: Saturdays and/or Sundays; holidays, blackout periods, and for other business needs.
Scheduled for two days off each week, except during holidays or blackout periods.
Regular attendance at the assigned store in accordance with these schedule expectations is an essential function of the job.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required; Bachelor is preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Five plus years of relevant retail sales and management experience in a multi-store, high volume organization required, preferably with experience in furniture retail and fulfillment-based operations.
Five years of experience managing direct reports with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop success factors for continued growth. Proven track record in big box consumer retail sales and operations management, consistently exceeding sales and other business goals.
