The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is seeking an HR Generalist to join its small, welcoming and fast-paced HR team.

ABOUT THE JOB:
Under the general guidance of the Director of HR, the HR Generalist will perform duties at the professional level in the following functional areas: talent acquisition, onboarding, maintenance of the HRIS system, generating payroll, producing reports, ensuring data integrity, benefits and leaves of absence programs, and employee engagement, including DEI and wellness.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the recruitment process.
- Collaborate with managers and directors to develop job descriptions and create job advertisements.
- Conduct background checks and license checks for new and existing employees.
- Coordinate onboarding activities with managers, IT, and facilities to ensure seamless integration for new hires.
- Assist in delivering comprehensive onboarding experiences, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
Administrative/Compliance
- Assist with updating policies and procedures.
- Stay abreast of laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure the Food Bank remains compliant and relevant.
- Oversee the employee separation process to ensure the completion of exit interviews and all related procedures.
- Oversee the administration of the annual performance evaluation process and maintain the performance evaluation online portal.
- Support Director of HR with all reporting requirements.
HRIS Coordinator
- Remain current on new and evolving system capabilities related to the HRIS system.
- Develop and maintain HRIS reports and ensure data integrity and accurate reporting.
Bi-Weekly Payroll
- Process bi-weekly payroll, deduction transmittals, W-2s, 1095s and other related year-end reports in a timely manner in accordance with payroll practices.
- Process new hires, salary adjustments, bonuses, garnishments in the HRIS system.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and payroll system errors.
Leave Programs and Unemployment
- Educate and support employees through the leave of absence process.
- Complete paperwork for TDI, TCI, unemployment, workers’ compensation and long-term disability, COBRA administration, while communicating the appropriate information to employees.
Benefits
- Oversee the day-to-day responsibilities for all employee benefit programs, including new employee orientation, employee education and support for employee inquiries.
- Provide support for the annual open enrollment process for employee benefits.
- Provide benefit usage reports on a regular basis.
DEI and Wellness Program Coordinator
- Actively participate and support the DEI and Wellness Committees and recommend ways that HR can support these initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Director of HR to enhance DEI & Wellness initiatives and identify actionable growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 - 5 years of experience in Human Resources or related areas required, including experience working with HR systems and payroll, ideally ADP.
- Ability to communicate effectively when speaking and in writing
- Proficient with Microsoft and Office environments (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with people from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds.
- Must have a proven ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
