Overview

Under general direction, responsible for the more complex accounting activities associated with the functional work group's accounting transactions, financial reports and internal controls over financial reporting. Uses extensive technical knowledge of business operations and technical accounting to research complex accounting matters, provide consultations, assist in the implementation of new accounting standards, support the SEC reporting process and prepare/present technical accounting training. This is a senior-skill level normally without supervisory responsibility. However, may provide guidance and direction to other PPL employees in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective accounting solutions as this position is a key contributor in a complex environment who may lead functional teams or projects. #INDPPL #RIE #PPL #INDLGE #INDRIE #LG&EKU

Responsibilities

• Evaluates accounting policies and procedures to reflect changes in business conditions, processes, and accounting
• Prepares more complex accounting analyses.
• Supports the financial reporting process during the SEC reporting periods through the preparation and/or review of financial statement disclosures and supporting work papers. Reviews filings for compliance with GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
• Enhances internal controls over financial reporting.
• Provides consultation on complex SEC financial reporting matters.
• Provides functional advice or training to less-experienced accountant positions.
• Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May direct the work of other staff members.
• Increases and applies knowledge of legal and regulatory issues and changes in accounting guidance.
• Researches the impact of new accounting standards issued by the FASB, SEC and other regulatory bodies and provides ongoing consultation on technical accounting inquiries from the Controller’s Department organizations and the business lines. Documents and reviews the results of this research with management.
• Disseminates technical accounting updates to the Controller’s Department staff and business lines.
• Participates in, or leads, complex technical accounting projects to address accounting issues and business line needs.
• Assists in the preparation and presentation of technical accounting training for the Controller’s Department staff.
  
  
  

Qualifications

Senior Level:

• Bachelor's Degree in business discipline with at least 3 accounting courses and 5 years accounting experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with 3-5 years of accounting-related experience.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; use of excel/word is required.
• Experience with Advisory Services.
  
  
  

Specialist Level:

• Bachelor's Degree in business discipline with at least three accounting courses and 7 or more years accounting-related experience or
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 4 years accounting-related experience
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Required to actively pursue certification within two years of the job effective date. Required or
• Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Required to actively pursue certification within two years of the job effective date. Required
  
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• MBA or other advanced degree in business
• CPA or CMA
• Experience in utility accounting, public accounting and SEC reporting, and a working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley
• Demonstrated ability to research technical accounting
