Position Purpose
The Facility and Engineering Manager is responsible for the operational oversight, maintenance, and engineering needs of Tidewater Stadium. This includes ensuring the optimal functioning of mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, elevators, plumbing, and other critical infrastructure systems. The role also involves managing preventative maintenance programs, overseeing repairs, and ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.
Operating Context
The Facility and Engineering Manager will work autonomously in overseeing day-to-day stadium operations while also collaborating with key stakeholders to align facility maintenance with organizational goals. The position requires flexibility, including working evenings and weekends as needed for events.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage stadium maintenance, ensuring all systems function efficiently, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
- Implement and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all facility equipment.
- Maintain inventory of tools, machinery, cleaning supplies, and repair materials.
- Serve as the primary user of the stadium’s building automation system and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Ensure records of all maintenance and repair activities are up-to-date.
- Plan and manage off-season maintenance projects, securing competitive bids and contracts for facility improvements.
- Stay updated on best practices and new technologies in facility maintenance and stadium management.
- Recruit, contract with, and manage vendors and service providers for various maintenance and engineering needs.
- Supervise and train in-house maintenance staff, ensuring safety protocols and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA, ADA, and local building code regulations.
- Support stadium operations for RIFC matches and other events, ensuring the venue is in top condition before, during, and after use.
- Provide recommendations for capital improvements to enhance stadium sustainability and efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility management, engineering, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a management role.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems in a stadium, arena, or large-scale venue setting.
- Familiarity with work order and inventory management software.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, workplace safety, and emergency response procedures.
- Experience managing service contracts and vendor relationships.
- Ability to lead and manage a maintenance team effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the stadium’s event schedule.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Journeyman, Engineer, or Facilities Management Certification (e.g., CFM, FMP, or equivalent) preferred.
- Experience with stadium or sports venue operations is highly desirable.
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Work Schedule
This position will require evening, weekend, and holiday hours based on the needs of the stadium and Rhode Island FC events.
