Job Summary:

The Admissions Clerk in a healthcare setting is responsible for managing the patient intake process, ensuring all necessary documentation is accurately completed and submitted. This role involves verifying patient information, coordinating with medical staff, and providing excellent customer service to patients and their families as they navigate the admissions process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Registration: Greet patients, verify personal and insurance information, and accurately input it into the hospital or healthcare system.
  • Documentation Management: Ensure all required forms and consents (e.g., medical history, insurance, and consent forms) are completed, signed, and filed appropriately.
  • Insurance Verification: Verify insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations or approvals as necessary.
  • Data Entry: Accurately enter patient information into the electronic medical records (EMR) system or other databases.
  • Patient Interaction: Answer patient questions and provide guidance regarding the admissions process, including paperwork, insurance, and hospital policies.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Assist with scheduling appointments for patients and coordinate with medical staff for any necessary pre-admission testing.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and medical assistants, to ensure seamless patient admission and information flow.
  • Billing and Coding Assistance: Help patients understand their billing and insurance coverage, and ensure that all charges are correctly entered and matched with the corresponding procedures.
  • Patient Privacy: Adhere to all healthcare privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA) to ensure the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Patient Records Management: Maintain both physical and electronic records for all patients in accordance with hospital protocols and legal requirements.
  • Follow-up: Ensure that all necessary follow-up appointments or procedures are scheduled and that patients have all the information they need for their next steps in care.
  • Customer Service: Provide empathetic support and address any patient or family concerns related to the admissions process.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment, such as hospitals, clinics, or medical offices, is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, patient records, and insurance processes.
  • Proficiency with medical record software, such as Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time or part-time position, typically during office hours, but may require occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on the facility.
  • Work in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital, outpatient clinic, or medical office.
  • Requires sitting for extended periods and working at a desk with computers and other office equipment.
  • May involve interacting with patients in emotionally charged situations, requiring a high degree of professionalism and sensitivity.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $11.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 28 – 40 per week
