Job Description
Plan, prepare, implement, teach, and evaluate discipline coursework in the areas of English Communication, English Humanities, English Fine Arts, and/or another qualified general education discipline. Participate in course and program development and evaluation. Participate in assigned committees and task forces. Collaborate with various colleagues and stakeholders to address and respond to relevant issues affecting student success.
The teaching assignment will include a combination of face-to-face and online courses. Face-to-face courses may be delivered on Richland’s campus or at cooperating dual-credit high schools. The teaching load is five courses per fall and spring semester. Opportunities for summer teaching may be available.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a Masters degree Composition/Rhetoric or English, knowledge of current best practices, methods, research, and theories in first-year composition, and a commitment to working with first-generation students of diverse backgrounds. Qualified candidates should have a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the college level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Participate in course and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation consistent with the discipline’s philosophy, objectives, and conceptual framework by:
- Formulate and/or revise course objectives that are aligned with discipline goals and Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) recommendations (if applicable)
- Organize and recommend course content and delivery modes
- Recommend teaching methods
- Recommend textbook and other teaching materials
- Prepare lectures, lesson plans, and syllabi for assigned classes, conduct assigned instruction in classes as specified in the class schedule, maintain official class rosters and grade reports, report drops to the registrar, and personally prepare and proctor tests that adequately measure student learning outcomes and are aligned with IAI recommendations (if applicable).
- Conduct classroom instruction in various delivery modes and locations including face-to-face using, hybrid, online, and/or at partnering high schools and extension sites using sound and comprehensive principles.
Faculty
- Keep students informed of academic performance, progress, and potential academic issues affecting student success, tutor students who require special attention, and work with student services when needed concerning student welfare.
- Collect and analyze data on course and program outcomes in collaboration with discipline colleagues to evaluate and improve student learning.
- Provide a climate that is conducive to student learning.
Service
- Participate in College, Division, program, and course assessment activities for programs, courses, and institutional initiatives, including the recommendations of goals, methods, and quality indicators.
- Cooperate and collaborate with other college Divisions to meet students’ learning needs and objectives.
- Participate in college functions, activities, and committees.
- Participate in recruitment efforts as requested by the program director and/or dean.
Administrative
- Utilize college technology for the delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the College’s learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portal.
- Be familiar with administrative policies, philosophies, objectives, and goals involving the program and institution.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

- Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
- Informs Dean of student problems/issues.
- Assists with recruitment and admission procedures, when assigned.
- Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
- Establishes and meets office hours convenient for assisting students.
- Consults with students regarding learning needs and performance.
- Refers students to college services, e.g., Student Success, Financial Aid, Veterans Affairs, Academic Success, Learning Resource Center, etc. as needed.
- Understands and maintains student records grades, and other information and submits required information to meet established deadlines.
- Maintains the confidentiality of information according to FERPA guidelines.
- Keeps current in the profession through personal initiatives for learning and professional development growth activities.
- Serves on College and/or Division committees. Performs community service activities.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMAND AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Operates standard office equipment such as a phone and computers on a frequent basis. Receives, Processes, and provides visual and verbal information, including electronic communications.
Is available for occasional irregular hours and travel. Must be able to work effectively in stressful situations.
Provides timely response to externally/internally imposed conditions and deadlines. Responds to concurrent, multiple, non-related issues.

Salary range: $44,738-$95,241 per year
