RINA is currently recruiting for a Drainage Engineer to join its office in Chicago, IL within the Civil Engineering Division.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000
Mission
The Drainage Engineer is responsible for performing engineering design that is associated with traditional highway/roadway projects. The technical work may involve hydrology and hydraulic calculations/modeling, completing drainage technical memorandums, location drainage studies, determining pipe sizing, and development of drainage plan and profile sheets. The Engineer will report to a Manager and work with a team of staff engineers and technicians. The work is to be completed in compliance with owner/clients’ (IL DOT, IL EPA, Chicagoland counties) standards and policies.

Key Accountabilities
- Develop in MicroStation drainage plan and profile sheet traditionally associated with roadway reconstruction or rehabilitation projects.
- Identify existing drainage areas and drainage patterns
- Design proposed drainage systems for portions of local roadway, highways or interstates
- Assist in the preparation of drainage studies including existing and proposed drainage plans, hydraulic reports, and Location Drainage Studies
- Assist in the preparation of final engineering plans and specifications for drainage facilities including storm sewers systems, schedules, detention ponds, and water quality facilities
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculation for culvert and storm sewer sizing, including determining the hydraulic grade line and information traditionally included on the Waterway Information Table.
- Coordinate with other engineers and supporting staff during plan development to ensure conformance to standards and code requirements
- Responsible for adherence to quality control policies and procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related with a focus in hydrology and hydraulics from an accredited university or college
- 2 years of professional drainage study/design work
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
- Professional Engineers License preferred
- Knowledge of MicroStation
- Familiarity with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, EPA SWMM, and OpenDrainage a plus.
- Work experience and knowledge of IDOT drainage design policies and procedures is a plus
- Excellent technical communication skills (oral and written)
- Willingness to learn and invest in professional development
- Self-starter who can work independently or part of a multi-discipline team
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to travel regionally for site visits and client meetings
