Position Overview:


We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller with deep expertise in Real Estate and Oil & Gas accounting to lead financial operations, optimize reporting processes, and ensure compliance with industry regulations. This role requires a strategic financial leader with a proven track record in managing complex financial structures, optimizing cash flow, and supporting high-value asset management.

This role will lead the internalization of fund accounting functions, replacing outsourced providers and building in-house capabilities for both Rising Phoenix and its affiliated investment funds.

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and analytical professional who can navigate the financial complexities of property management, oil and gas revenue accounting, and joint venture operations. This individual will play a key role in financial planning, internal controls, and executive decision-making.

Core Responsibilities:


  • Lead accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and tax compliance processes with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee lease accounting, cost segregation, depreciation schedules, and asset management for real estate operations.
  • Manage revenue recognition, joint interest billing, depletion calculations, and production cost tracking for oil and gas entities.
  • Oversee oil and gas fund financials, including monthly investor distributions, performance reporting, bank compliance, and annual audits
  • Lead the transition to in-house fund accounting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate quarterly compliance reporting for business lines of credit, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to banking partners
  • Develop and implement cash flow optimization strategies, ensuring financial stability.
  • Improve financial processes through automation and system integrations to enhance efficiency.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, tax filings, and audit readiness, mitigating financial risk.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to drive financial strategy, forecasting and decision-making.

Ideal Candidate Profile:


  • 8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with 2 years in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Strong expertise in Real Estate and Oil & Gas accounting, including GAAP, FASB, and industry-specific compliance (ASC 606, ASC 842, full-cost/successful efforts accounting).
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (QuickBooks,Yardi, MRI, OGSYS, WolfePak, SAP, or similar).
  • CPA, CMA, or CFA preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):


  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Ensure 100% accuracy in financial reports and maintain audit-ready compliance.
  • Operational Efficiency: Reduce monthly close cycle to five business days or less and implement automation for improved reporting.
  • Cash Flow & Budget Management: Maintain forecast accuracy within ±5% variance and optimize working capital.
  • Profitability & Cost Control: Improve EBITDA margins and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Reporting: Deliver timely, data-driven insights to support executive decision-making.
