By partnering with refugee and immigrant leaders and their community- based organizations to elevate their voices and expand their capacity, RIVA creates a cascade of change that’s powered by our own communities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Community Health Navigatorshelp build relationships within their community to increase access to information and resources in an empowering and effective way. Community Navigators play a critical role in connecting community members with educational opportunities, sharing information about vaccines and increasing access to services and resources through a peer-to peer social learning model. For this position we are giving preference to Spanish speaking applicants motivated to work alongside our Latinx communities.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Build relationships with community members, serve as a liaison and bridge builder between immigrant community and mainstream service providers
- Provide outreach and engage community through targeted methods such as conversations with faith and mutual aid association leaders and groups, home visits, tabling, fairs, and collaborations
- Develop and adapt promotional and educational materials to raise awareness about vaccines and self-sufficiency resources
- Assists with screenings such as diabetes and blood pressure, and provide necessary referrals and resources
- Providing linguistically and culturally support, such as translated materials, interpretation, help scheduling vaccine appointments, and answering FAQs
- Empowering self-advocacy, storytelling and civic engagement
- Facilitate educational opportunities, trainings and learning circles to share information about resources through a peer-to peer social learning model
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma and Higher Education (university) degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience providing support services to families in need
- LANGUAGE Skills: Fluent Spanish is required
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships based on trust, understanding, patience, and cultural sensitivity
- Must be able to handle private/sensitive information and maintain professional and strict levels of confidentiality
- Ability to coordinate, develop and execute plans and multi-task with attention to detail
- Experience conducting outreach and engaging and serving the immigrant community
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
REQUIREMENTS:
Communication Requirements:
- Actively listen for total comprehension.
- Ask questions that enhance the understanding of a certain topic.
- Relay information and/or instruction in a descriptive and understandable fashion in both written and verbal forms.
- Bilingual/Multilingual in language of the targeted immigrant community
- Being responsive in a timely manner.
Reasoning Ability Requirements:
- Professional-level, reasoning abilities are necessary to process complex information.
- Candidates must be able to delegate duties.
- Being able to stay organized and effectively prioritize deadlines.
Other Requirements:
- Able to use technology essential to job responsibilities (computer software, data information systems, fax and internet)
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and a good driving record
- Reliable mode of transportation required
- Must pass an extensive background check
- Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
- Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs. may be necessary from time to time.
- Must be able to stand and/or sit for hours at a time
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
