Maintenance Technician - Commercial Greenhouse

Job Overview: We are seeking a Maintenance Technician for a commercial greenhouse to perform a variety of critical maintenance and operational tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient growing environment. This position requires someone with a "jack-of-all-trades" skillset—from HVAC filter changes and dehumidifier cleaning to handling basic repairs, janitorial tasks, forklift operation, and general facility maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical aptitude, a problem-solving mindset, and a “fix-it” attitude to ensure the greenhouse systems and facilities are operating smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:HVAC & Environmental Control Maintenance

• HVAC Filter Replacement: Change and maintain HVAC filters regularly to ensure proper airflow and air quality within the greenhouse.
• Dehumidifier Cleaning: Clean and inspect dehumidifiers, including drain lines and coils, to ensure they operate effectively and maintain optimal humidity levels.
• Troubleshooting & Repairs: Assist with troubleshooting and basic repairs of HVAC systems, dehumidifiers, and other climate control equipment to maintain ideal growing conditions.

General Facility Maintenance

• Routine Facility Inspections: Conduct daily inspections of all greenhouse systems (e.g., irrigation, lighting, ventilation) and report any malfunctions or issues.
• Basic Mechanical Repairs: Handle basic repairs to greenhouse equipment (e.g., pumps, fans, electrical systems) as needed.
• Janitorial Duties: Perform light janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning equipment areas to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• General Maintenance Support: Assist with the setup, maintenance, and storage of greenhouse tools and equipment.
• Plumbing Repairs: Address plumbing issues throughout the facility, including fixing leaks, unclogging drains, repairing faucets, and ensuring proper water flow in bathrooms and other areas.
• Toilet Maintenance: Ensure all toilets are functioning correctly, replacing faulty parts like flush valves, handles, and seals.
• Water Heater Maintenance: Assist with basic water heater troubleshooting and maintenance, including adjusting temperature settings and ensuring operational efficiency.
• Drain & Sewer Line Maintenance: Handle basic drain clearing for bathrooms or assist in more complex plumbing needs, reporting to outside contractors when necessary.
• Working with PVC: Perform basic plumbing repairs involving PVC piping. This includes cutting, fitting, gluing, and installing PVC pipes for irrigation systems, drainage, and other facility needs.

Forklift Operation

• Material Handling: Safely operate a forklift to move heavy materials, equipment, and supplies throughout the greenhouse and storage areas.
• Inventory Support: Use forklift to assist in the organization and transportation of inventory, ensuring that materials are stored in an orderly and efficient manner.
• Loading/Unloading: Assist in the loading and unloading of delivery trucks, moving pallets or large items as required.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols when operating the forklift, including securing loads properly and adhering to speed limits and designated pathways.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

• “Mister Fix-It” Role: Respond quickly and efficiently to unexpected breakdowns or issues in the greenhouse, applying your mechanical skills and troubleshooting ability to find solutions.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Operations and Cultivation teams to address immediate facility concerns and ensure the greenhouse environment is optimal for plant growth.
• Preventive Maintenance: Follow and update the preventive maintenance schedule for all systems and equipment, ensuring regular checks and repairs to avoid breakdowns.

Other Duties as Assigned

• Assist with special projects such as greenhouse expansion, upgrades, or new system installations.
• Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to company safety protocols and reporting hazards.
• Help maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance logs, and inventory management.

Qualifications:Required Skills and Experience:

• Hands-on Mechanical Abilities: Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various systems (HVAC, dehumidifiers, pumps, electrical components).
• Experience with HVAC Systems: Familiarity with HVAC filter replacement, system cleaning, and basic troubleshooting.
• Forklift Certification & Operation: Valid forklift certification or ability to safely operate a forklift in a commercial environment, moving materials and supplies as needed.
• Plumbing Knowledge: Ability to perform basic plumbing repairs, including fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing faulty components, and maintaining water systems. Experience working with PVC piping for plumbing, irrigation, and drainage systems.
• Problem Solving & “Fix-It” Mentality: Quick-thinking and resourceful with a “can-do” attitude to resolve facility issues as they arise.
• Basic Electrical & Plumbing Knowledge: Experience with simple electrical and plumbing repairs is a plus.
• Janitorial Experience: Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintaining facilities, including knowledge of cleaning supplies and procedures.(Note: Bathroom cleaning is not part of this role.)
• Team Player: Ability to collaborate with other team members and departments (e.g., cultivation, operations) to solve problems efficiently.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to identify issues in greenhouse systems and perform regular inspections to ensure everything is functioning properly.
• Ability to Lift Heavy Objects: Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs. and using tools and equipment to perform necessary maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Some Knowledge of Boilers and Combustible Engines: Experience or familiarity with boilers or small engines used in climate control systems is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
