Job Title: Referral Specialist
Department: Oncology
Location: Potsdam, NY
Hours Per Week: 40 hours
Schedule: Monday to Thursday; 7 am to 5:30 pm
SUMMARY:
Responsible for scheduling and obtaining authorizations for specialized services (e.g., MRI, CT, Neurology, Pain Management), coordinating referrals to specialists, and documenting all interactions in the EMR. Ensures appropriate care and promotes patient satisfaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greet all patients in a professional, friendly manner in person and over the phone.
Coordinate testing and referrals by working with physicians, patients, facilities, and insurers; ensure all clinical and documentation requirements are met.
Obtain and document procedure and diagnosis codes, as well as pre-certifications/authorizations from insurance providers.
Notify patients of scheduled procedures and instructions; coordinate arrival times with facilities.
Refer self-pay and out-of-network patients to appropriate financial assistance resources.
Maintain accurate records of all communications and authorizations in the EMR.
Ensure all care and interactions are age- and culturally-appropriate, taking into account individual needs and communication preferences.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient with computer programs, including Excel and Word; comfortable navigating multiple systems.
Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic and reliability.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred; orthopedic terminology highly preferred.
AAS in related field preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
PAY RANGE: $20.00 - $26.25
