What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Development Director position at Rockford Rescue Mission?
What is Development? Good question! This is the most important aspect of a non-profit organization! You are on a team that relates to the donor's that give so generously and interact with them and their needs. You would be the coordinator for the department. You will also coordinate with all of our volunteers here at Rockford Rescue Mission where we truly work to share hope and help in the name of Jesus to move people from homelessness and despair toward personal and spiritual wholeness. This is life giving work!
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: In alignment with the CDO, help coordinate development activities, special events, volunteer relations, and functions of the development department. With the CDO, help lead the development team in promoting and representing the ministries of the Mission.
DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT
- Assist CDO with managing and leading assigned Development projects and strategic plan actions.
- Become proficient in all areas of Development and with work instructions be able to be a back-up for any position in Development, including CDO.
- Understand and help manage donor groups including major donors, monthly donors, legacy donors and organizations.
- Assist CDO with all Development reporting. This includes Board Reports, monthly/weekly donation reports and various other donor data and metrics.
DEVELOPMENT TASKS
- Cultivate and engage assigned donors to develop genuine relationships, with the goal to discern the donors’ passions for giving and satisfy them through timely, well-matched opportunities. This is accomplished through phone calls, notes/cards/emails, Mission tours, and personal visits. Help plan and execute fundraising events, which include annual Telethon, and periodic events such as Women of Hope, concert, banquet, and potential new events.
- Help with donor gift thank you calls and cards throughout the year.
- Record all contact information and notes into Rockford Rescue Mission’s donor database to ensure accurate record-keeping.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Present at public speaking opportunities to promote the Mission as assigned.
- Conduct tours as requested.
- Perform related work and other duties as required and assigned.
SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take every opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
- Provide spiritual encouragement to staff, volunteers, guests and residents.
- Invest in the spiritual development of staff, guests, residents, and donors.
- Pray for and with staff, volunteers, guests, residents, and donors.
- Ensure actions and policies reflect the Christian values and purpose of the Mission.
- Handle relational conflicts according to the Staff Covenant of Romans 12:18 and Matthew 18:15-19
- Memorize monthly Scripture, Mission Statement, and Mission Core Values.
- Participate in corporate prayer and Scripture reading, staff chapel services, and all spiritual gatherings.
- Support and attend annual mandatory Evangelism In Service training to grow in knowledge of leading others to faith in Christ.
- Participate in annual spiritual growth training through organization selected curriculum

- Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities. Must take an active part ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all our staff, volunteers and Mission guests. Willing to work weekends and evenings as necessary for special events, speaking engagements, etc. Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial.
