Job Title: Materials Planner
Shift Timing: First Shift
Location: North Hollywood, California 91605
Pay rate: $21.00 - $28.74/hr
Position Summary
The role is responsible for maintaining effective control of the backlog from order entry through shipment. This includes ensuring each order is planned and acted upon in a timely manner while providing necessary visibility to ensure a smooth flow of materials. The position also involves identifying and reconciling potential problems through coordination with various departments.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Liaison with Contracts on loading and lead-time of all new Sales Orders.
• Monitor the sales backlog for assigned planner code.
• Ensure delivery notes are raised in a timely manner with contracts, allowing time for kitting/inspection and shipping within expected turnaround times (TAT).
• Ensure timely delivery of parts through receiving and shipping departments.
• Prioritize material handling from receipt to shipment based on schedule requirements and departmental workload.
• Coordinate the purchase and planning of materials required to meet the production schedule.
• Expedite and schedule orders to meet company and financial requirements.
• Process changes, reschedules, and outside processing as necessary to accomplish production schedule goals.
• Place purchase orders.
• Possess knowledge of manufacturing processes, including determining time requirements for specific jobs and translating the production plan into a specific time schedule.
• Review MRP order action messages, maintain schedules, and ensure visibility.
• Identify and resolve issues related to shipments.
• Generate work orders and issue purchase orders based on MRP messages, negotiating price and delivery schedules consistent with production needs.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by achieving on-time deliveries of quality products.
• Follow through on special requests and expedite orders as necessary.
• Identify potential late deliveries and develop plans for recovery.
Minimum Qualifications
• Education Level:
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
• Field of Study/Area of Experience:
2-4 years of experience in planning.
5 years of experience in production control, including material/inventory management in a defense or aerospace environment.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Requires excellent planning, organizational, and motivational skills.
• Knowledge of JDE MRP system is extremely helpful.
• Past MRP / ERP experience is a must.
• SAP knowledge is desirable.
• General knowledge of machine shop practices and processing standards is helpful.
• Knowledge of military and commercial standards is helpful.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and computerized MRP systems is required.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) with a positive attitude and the ability to motivate others.
• Ability to prioritize workload and complete tasks on time.
• Ability to maintain flexibility and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the company.
• Must communicate effectively and professionally with management, peers, suppliers, delivery personnel, and customers.
• Strong creative problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in various situations.
• Ability to interpret and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Familiarity with interpreting and understanding diagrams, graphs, and schedules is essential.
