Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Grower to oversee the production and care of our plants. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of horticulture practices, experience with plant propagation, and a strong commitment to maintaining healthy, thriving plants. This role requires hands-on expertise and a passion for nurturing plants through all stages of growth. We specialize in indoor foliage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plant Care: Manage the daily care and maintenance of plants, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, and pest/disease control.
- Propagation: Execute and monitor propagation techniques such as seed sowing, cuttings, grafting, and tissue culture.
- Monitoring: Regularly inspect plants for signs of stress, disease, or pests and take corrective action as needed.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of plant health, growth rates, environmental conditions, and treatments applied.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the nursery staff to plan and execute planting schedules, rotations, and inventory needs.
- Greenhouse Management: Monitor and adjust environmental controls (temperature, humidity, and light levels) to optimize plant growth.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure plants meet the nursery’s quality standards for retail and wholesale customers.
- Training: Assist in training junior staff and seasonal workers on proper horticulture techniques and safety practices.
Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in plant production, nursery operations, or greenhouse management.
- Strong understanding of plant physiology, soil science, and pest management.
- Familiarity with irrigation systems and environmental control technologies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods (up to 50 lbs).
- Self-motivated.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
